  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Ok so I'm getting a little closer to begin my collection of Leica R lenses. I'm just after one more bit of advice for you experienced Leica guys. Would you prioritize starting with the 35,50,85 luxes? Or for the price difference, I could probably get the crons + the 19mm V2 or the 100mm macro. Hard to know without being able to test them, I can't track any down where I am. Very frustrating.

I've just purchased a 35 and 50 Lux (the latest versions) I already had a 19 V2. I am going to have a lot of questions about the other lenses to fill in the gaps such as do I want the 28 or 24, the 80 lux or a 90? And do I totally rehouse them or just do a Duclos type conversion? I am excited to create a new set of primes that can become a main go to set (I can't afford MP, and such). I've learned quite a bit in this and other threads a and am looking forward to learning more.

I'm am learning the same lessons. The Crons are great if you are not needing the extra stop of speed, but form what I've read if you do want 1.4's then its best to get the newest versions otherwise you may elect to shoot them stopped down a bit anyway. The exception is the 80 Lux which will bloom wide open (there isn't a version of this lens that doesn't bloom) which on people or low contrast scenes is usually fine and often kinda a nice effect but on say a night city skyline or some other high contrast detailed shot the blooming might not be so desirable.

I personally popped for the Luxes cause I really like to shoot wide open at times to get the nice bokeh that comes with it, and for night shooting. BTW I have an extra 50 Lux (38xxxxx series serial number) that I am going to be selling soon.

Also form what I've been hearing the 60 macro (which doesn't cost a lot) is a pretty desirable lens.

If it works with your budget, look at the 90 apo aspherical & 28mm v2 – both are incredible along with 19 v2. 80 Summilux and 28 v1 would be my next choice , then regular 90 Summicron and 24. GL Optics vs Duclos may also come down to cost/what you can work with.

Thanks Mark. I've mentioned before, I prefer to shoot at f2 anyway, so it would more be a question of say the 35 f1.4 shooting at f2 vs the 35 f2 shooting at f2, and whether there would be a big difference. If not, I'll probably elect to go for the crons and have a larger set. Tough decisions. Good to know about getting the later 1.4 luxes, because from what I can find online, they are approaching the Schneider xenon price range. Might be too much of a stretch for now

Are Leica APO Zoom lenses
35-70mm f2.8 and 70-180mm f2.8
and
