Laforet Video and New Canon Gear?

Someone swore to me that Canon was going to get this camera "right" for filmmakers. What a horrible disappointment. I guess they do not care about our little market after all.

The ISO is great but I wonder how much of that is fixed in post, Vincent said on his blog he did use Magic Bullet noise reduction.

Stu confirmed at Prolost that the camera still suffers from aliasing, just as expected.

Does anyone else think it is odd that we are all looking towards still cameras to come up with cameras for us? What ever happened to Sony? JVC? Panasonic? How is it possible for professional video companies have missed the bus so many times?

Now seeing the best that Canon and Nikon have to offer, I am going to sit tight and wait for EPIC with no hesitation.

Someone help me here.. But why do the flagship canon camera's not sport full frame sensors? There must me a simple explanation for it...

It's so that the 1d can have a higher frame rate. The 1d has always been aimed towards people who need high frame rates and the 1ds is for those who need the most total resolution.

High ISO/low light shooting ability will always be welcome and fun but not a the cost of dynamic range. The Laforet video shows a few things specifically:
#1 You need to light to make things look good (or at least cinematic) even if you can see in the dark.
#2 You can make 24P and shallow DOF look like video if you blow every highlight in the scene.
#3 Having a decent eye doesn't mean you can tell a compelling story (I know it's a camera demo but there's no reason to make something so vague and anticlimactic, sorry for the rant.)

I agree with Evin.

Is the white wall meant to look like this.... ?

LMAO. This is why I won't shoot on these Canons until they change this nonsense. It looks like that aliasing can even be seen on the asphalt cracks!

#1 The credits say "all shot with available light". How one uses and modifies that available light is how we separate the artists from the artisans.
#2 You can make 35mm film look like video if you're not careful.
#3 Having shot a number of demo films for Kodak, I think Laforet's demo for this new camera is excellent. This camera is aimed at those that want to create great looking web video and have a camera with incredible high ISO performance. I think we can all agree that on the web, this video looks great.

I think a lot of people will buy this camera rather than an EX1, the rest of us though will keenly await the arrival of Scarlet and Epic.

I thought the story was great. Kid hits his head and gets knocked unconscious, has a near death experience, is chased by death, wanders through a shadow realm between life and death, is able to get back to his body and return to life, with death giving up the chase for the time being (since it's not his time yet).

I think a lot of it has to do with what price point we're expecting these cameras to be released at vs. the price points of the cameras from those manufacturers.
