  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

What sling mounts are these that mount in the 1/4 20 holes?

Got Komodo ST 243 today! Going to try to get it mounted up to a car for some nighttime mountain driving if all goes to plan.

Here are some photos of it for now from each side for anyone interested.

QD weapon sling mounts work very well on a small camera like this. Should work even better mounted on the side to the Timmy ribs once those arrive.

In case folks haven't seen the "test" footage from the amazingly talented Bob Gundu.

This is great looking to me but It is one of the videos somebody earlier was calling plastic. I wonder if the naysayer noticed that it was shot on a Nikon 50mil with an anamorphic adapter? Doesn’t look “hazy” to me. Maybe too many people out there playing high frame rate video games getting their eyes tweaked?

well it might be aesthetically pleasing, but that anamorphic lens is SUPER soft, and in no way rendering even close to 4K resolutions, let alone 6K. And it does look a bit hazy in multiple shots, but that's because of that adapter. This is kind of the problem people are talking about. A lot of footage people are complaining about is coming from low quality lenses or mistakes. A lot have been using affordable (cheap) glass on their komodo tests, and thats why this haze is being seen. Look at how sharp and clear some of the modern glass videos that have been posted like Sigma 18-35 shots. Very sharp and clean. People are also using poor quality filters like variable ND's which show lots of artifacts of their own. The shots from my more modern lenses are sharp and clear.

I have a very detailed eye and can spot all of the things that others have complained about. I say this again, there ARE issues being seen, it's just that its operator induced, not camera.

I'm seriously considering this camera (over the Canon C300/3) but I have to say, I have yet to see any footage that I find at all impressive. I hope, J.Orlandi, that you're right and it's mistakes and lens choice that makes much of it look not only unimpressive, but actually poor.

Chill, no need to be spiting insults. The camera is still in Beta, and people are having discussions.

Bob also shot another piece, same glass, but with the old Dragon sensor,

I personally prefer the look of that video.

Lovely product shots! THere goes my secret hope of getting #223 to match my birthday. Assuming these are going out in some sort of chronological order....

I'm allocated #410 (arriving this week), so we are way beyond #223 at this point. Yes, serial numbers are in ascending order.

Can't wait for this one to be able to order in a normal way! Or buying the ones people don't like after a couple of months. Looks like a dream setup to me! The small BP-955 batteries look like a dream compared to the V-Mounts I have to use on our Epic-D.

Does anyone know if it is possible in current beta firmware to record audio while shooting high speed? This is something that was always useful to me on DSMC2 and doesn't look like there is currently an option for this? If not then consider this a feature request.

Would also be nice to be able to record internal audio and external at the same time if possible. Having that backup internal mic recording has saved me from time to time when external audio has issues.

You don't need any option in the camera fw to do this...just record to a separate device simultaneously

I also have the same question. My assumption is you can as long as the project base framerate is the same as the recording framerate... but thats my best guess

I don't believe you have to have your project timebase above 24fps (the same as your frame rate) to shoot HFR with audio. I used to trick the system by shooting in a 60fps project timebase while at 60fps to get audio but then I realized its not necessary as a workaround on my Gemini. On DSMC2 you can turn on a feature that records varispeed audio in separate WAV file. Not sure if this is implemented on Komodo or not but it is under MENU->SETTINGS->RECORDING->MODE.

The "Be a Superhero" one, if it wasn't stated that it was shot on Komodo, I would swear it to be film.
