  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Hard Specs will not be till the Black "normal" ones start shipping. I mean you guys already know almost everything anyways at least the important stuff.. but we have a list of some the comfort stuff... like this monitoring thing... that we still have work to do before we can commit to on paper officially.

yup when you rotate your phone and tap the image it goes fullscreen.

Hey Maz, DO NOT buy a Komodo right now if reliable Autofocus is a requirement for you... it is in no way dependable as I have said before it is in it's infancy stage right now.

The last 6 months of development have been 95% focused on image quality and stability and all the fluffy stuff is one step beyond placeholders right now.. there is a lot more work to do on all the secondary stuff.

Everyone already said it looks awesome to have that wireless app so I would like to focus my comment on the fact the Jarred is not pushing a potential customer into rushing to buy the camera. I mean, I've seen other brands and/or reseller who do not have that honesty. That's one of the reason I like RED. Thanks dude ;)

That looks great! Maybe add a button in the app that disables the camera settings so whoever is watching the feed and is not operating the camera can't accidently change things.

Just did. Check da Instagram :)

Lag is not bad... pretty serviceable from the looks of it. I was concerned it would be unresponsive. Good job! This bodes well for the final release. Would love to see more footage from this camera.

Forgive my ignorance on FoolControl -would this work on an iPad? The app says iOS...

Foolcontrol does indeed work on the iPad.

However, take note. In Jarred's video "this" is called RED CONTROL.

No there is more than that... somewhere between 2-4 right now and a bit of an annoying stutter. IOS has a built in wireless latency that we are tricking the best we can so there are a few gremlins to get out. This just was turned on 2 weeks ago so it's pretty fresh, lots of improvement to be had. But it's pretty rad regardless.. even in it's current form.

How about Android? Is the wireless latency any more optimized without the need for more gremlins?

Hey guys, I know this thread is getting pretty long and tends to wander a few different paths... But let’s keep it on the subject of Komodo. I nuked a couple Z-Cam posts, we already have discussions about them and others in the Off Topic section.

I really like the Teradek RT integration with Red, especially being able to focus EF lenses via internal motors. Will Komodo have a CTRL port?

RED has already made an GPI/TC/GENLOCK/CTRL-Module which can be screwed on to Komodo's base. The Module's plugged into Komodo's EXT port. If you're thinking about plugging your RT directly into the EXT port, you might need to knock on Teradek's door. (Maybe a cable conversion is already in the works/done, if it works that way; who knows...)
Here's the link to Jarred's insta post (I/O-Distribution-Module)

That breakout box, external control module, or whatever it's called actually is super damn exciting. We're still learning more and more about Komodo, but that right there shows some of the potential in using these cameras in more production savvy ways as well as weird rigs. Guessing the cable on far left is the EXT cable itself that goes into the Komodo brain.

I can see people ganging up 20 a bunch of these for certain applications where sync and a global shutter would play an important role.

Android version is going to be some time according to Jarred.

Sure?

...but we are working hard to implement an agnostic solution for all phones android or IOS to monitor (image) and control ( settings) the Komodo. FWIW, We already have the control part working on both IOS and Android, with no additional hardware required.

BTW, "with no additional hardware required" gets a different meaning; now, that we have wireless video transmission.

I'm wondering does anyone think there might be a Camera Kit version like the Raven, Dragon-X, and Gemini?
If so, what are you expecting to get with the Kit?

I personally would love to get the Canon RF ND/Polarizer Adapters, Sigma Lens like other kits (18-35mm f1.8 Art EF), the App for Monitoring on the Phone like Raven Fool Control, Reliable Cfast 2.0 (2x 256g or 1x 512g), and Batteries (maybe 4 of them + charger) all in a good hard case to be able to carry it safely...

I don't think it would reach over $8-9K for normal black komodos.

Has it been announced whether the AC power in is the same as with DSMC cameras
