  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

.

First-Production samples of anything almost always cost more... no matter what you are making. There is usually lots of machined and post-machined tooled parts before the tooling gets tweaked, expedited runs of small run boards etc. The paint is the least of the added expense.

Good to know, thanks for your response. Because white will reflect a whole lot easier than black, (edit: meaning show up easier/be more noticeable in a reflection) I think I'll pass on stormtrooper, despite wanting those bragging rights. The next few months can't come soon enough!

Does anyone know which Hydrogen phones will be eligible for the discount? I've seen talk of cut off dates from Jarred but nothing concrete. Seems buying a second hand one for a few hundred dollars to save $1000 is a no brainer, and you get the phone!

of course...

Is that the bottom of the camera or are we looking at a little module for the bottom? The perspective is messing with me I think lol.

ha ha yeah it's weird I actually took that photo hanging upside down.

Anyways, its an active baseplate. Put it on if you need it, take it off if you don't. Hooks up to the EXT port.

Sweet :)
Was about to point out that the ports don't match those of the schematics, so it's gotta be an expansion of sorts.
Sounds like you've got a lot of functionality built-in with possibilities for expansion!
Liking this even more every minute!!!

Yeah - I played around with a model I made from the sketch you published and active baseplates are clearly the best way to add I/O and keep the form factor lean and mean - especially given that the height from lens center to the bottom of the camera is ... extremely short.

One can even make "TB-50 Sandwich" baseplate - as that form factor of that battery works very interestingly under the camera :)

Awesome thanks for creating the ability to have a control port!

Next dream request- A Red focus system similar to rt motion latitude sidekick, but build it all into a baseplate? Complete with wireless thumb wheels and zoomrocker? Ability to plug in ultra light weight motors or control via autofocus motors in ef and rf lenses?

Good. But is it too much to ask if you guys could accommodate an internal receptacle at the bottom of the camera and a male raised connector on the module? If you could do this, it would eliminate cable runs to the camera making it truly a streamlined piece of engineering.

They've released technical drawings already, unfortunately too late at this point to make major changes like that.

Too much to ask. Zero room left for anything internal like that. Majority of time for most users this camera will be used without any of this... so not worth growing the entire body for.

Is there at least a way to get remote trigger just using the EXT port or do you need the break out module to do anything with the EXT port?

The "least" way .... is just a cable from EXT port (appears to be a 9 pin 0B lemo) to whatever connection you need - rs232 (RCP) or GPI trigger. Most likely a $90-$125ish cable depending on quality. I would suspect Jarred will post the EXT pinout in 3 ... 2 ...

Good to know, wasn't sure if there was more going on in there or if it was just a break out box with full sized connectors.

I can see your point with a 4" cube there is not much wiggle room for something like that. Thanks for the explanation.

I really, really like the idea of modularity building via the base on Komodo. Helps loads considering the lens height from base natively.

Won't help with the COG in some setups, but if that's a concern they'll rig it that way.

Heh. We have the dimensional drawings, but certainly not "all the dimensional drawings" just yet.

I'm wondering what baseplate situation Michael Bay had to rig a wireless follow focus to Komodo, considering I saw they were rocking PL glass and clip on matte box.

Both... you get RGB ( bars ) and RAW ( stop lights ) . but you also get an additional set of stop lights on the bottom so you can see both under and over clip in the raw. The bars give you RGB.

Yeah, that sounds awesome! And if it ends up being as popular as I think, will it make its way to DSMC1 and 2?
