  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

You're welcome Alain.

I believe this is the Receiver that comes with the $999 Kit.

They need to allow multiple RX (not a fan of the app) 'til then I will stay with (currently own) Atom 500 and just add Tilta V-lock for $139.

Kwan

That would be a great idea to allow for multiple Receivers so that multiple individuals could have multiple feeds from the Komodo from different parts of the production.

Alain,

But you know as soon as you get this someone like Teradek will probably come out with something more innovative with features you never knew you needed and at a more competitive price, HaHaHa.

Indeed.... hahahahahaha

Here's another short film made. Shot it in 6K 2:4:1 MQ. Edited it in premiere and graded using Filmconvert Nitrate.

I have a dilemma now with Travel kit lenses... I have my Zeiss Milvus lenses but then I see IRIX promo all over the internet and it got my attention some of the videos you shared... Focus Breathing, Sharpness and price is my main interest... Irix has the CINE housing which is awesome so now I wonder: Is IRIX a better choice than Milvus for small gigs, documentary, travel etc???

My current Dilemma... Haven't tried the IRIX myself yet....

Any thoughts ??? hahahahahah

Alain,

I think it all depends. The IRIX lens have 0.8 pitch gearing for both focus and Aperture . You could get 0.8 pitch rings to go around the focus rings of the milvus lenses if you needed you just would'nt have any external motor driven capabilities for aperture. The IRIX lenses only come in 11mm, 15mm, 45mm and 150mm. The Milvus lenses are available in a range from 15mm,18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm and 135mm. If you needed more of a variance in range between wide and telephoto you have a much greater range in the Milvus lenses than the IRIX lenses. With the IRIX lenses, you need other lenses that would not give you a good color match between lenses. Also, if this is for your own low budget personal projects, the Milvus would be great to own. You could always rent Cine-style lenses for more professional projects. Just my 2 cents ,HaHaHa.

EDIT:

I read alot around the internet that if you compared a Supreme Prime Side-by-Side with a Milvus lens that you might be suprised by how similar they look.

Vincent,

I think you probably would have seen a greater difference between the Lenses if he had used the HQ quality setting over the LQ quality setting. I think the LQ setting might have neutralized the true differences.

Makes a lot of sense Rand... Thanks for your input... I have order the focus ring from FOLLOW FOCUS GEAR to go one step at a time on this Dilemma not so much of a dilemma now? hahahahah

Thanks

You're Welcome Alain, glad I could help! The Milvus lenses you have are pretty amazing in their own right.

Laowa 9mm with Crop Comparisons on RED Komodo 6K

I thought Bob might have wanted to post this himself. I waited a couple of days to see if he would, I see that he hadn't. If he does post it, I will take this down.

You're welcome, But Bob is the one who made it. I'm just the "Middle Man", HaHaHaHa.

Yes... I love em... The only thing I don't love is that they are not CINE ready and it is cannon mount not DECLICK Aperture so not manually... But Quality wise, color contrast, sharpness and f breathing is pretty amazing. I think with the FOLLOW FOCUS GEAR ring on em I'll start feeling much better... hehehehe

They Rings should arrive this week... :)

Alain,

I think when you put the rings on and use them, You'll probably forget you ever wanted any other lenses. There are alot of low quality lenses out there with Cine-gearing as well. My thing is you can always use filters to soften sharp or very sharp lenses to get them to look anyway you want. However, there's no way in hell that you are going to turn an unsharp lens into a sharper one. I know cinematographers like the look and imperfections that older lenses sometime can give. But why pay $6000 for a 6K camera just to use lenses that would make the images look like low quality Canon 7D footage?

Maybe you can post some images or a video from the Komodo /Milvus combo when you get everything set up, HaHaHa.

Exactly... and the reason I went with MILVUS cuz they are really good and high quality images... For sure I will share my setup here... My problem is my traveling agenda now and I am not sure when will I grab my KOMODO... they are supposed to re-route the shipping to Miami. I am going back to miami for 3 days 24-27th of Nov before heading to Dominican Republic.

If I am lucky enough, KOMODO will be waiting in miami for me and I will take it to DR with me and do some tropical islands tests.. hahahahah

Hopefully everything works out so that you'll have the komodo before the trip.
