  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I emailed back within three minutes of getting the Komodo Round 2 email and it looks like I didn’t make it. ��
Were always overlooked in WV. I want to be able to tell my team that we got ourselves a limited edition colored Komodo. We have the money set aside for this. Let me know what I can do to be on the top of your list. ��
If the end result is that we are able to snatch a stormtrooper Komodo, then I’m still good with that. Fuckin’ awesome. Stoked as hell to eventually put one of those babies to use!
 
Man I emailed a minute after Jarred sent the email and I haven’t heard anything back. I will be very bummed if I missed out for this yellow one.

well I just ordered a new custom Porche in Siqfuti yellow to carry the Kommodo in...now what do I do :)
nothing worse than driving around in a siqfuti yellow car with a mismatched Komodo inside. im fucked. :emote_headwall:

here are some processed frames from testing DR today.

sigma 18-35 @ 20mm f8.0 800 iso & using Canon Variable ND adapter mount.

first up is the straight out of camera IPP2 5600k 0 tint and IPP2 Medium Contrast / Medium Highlight rolloff.

Awesome news and congratulations for those who made it!
Here is an idea I had IF there was a chance that I was quick enough to make it for the Team Siqfüti Yellow. Better luck next time :)
Now it's yours to do as you please. Grab some gaffer tape and go nuts!!!

NB: Remember to cut out holes for the vents!

Missed the yellow batch too. Awesome look. I'll be honest, I'm not in "need" of a Komodo "now" per se, but will definitely need one in the future, and was trying to get one of the cool ones first.

As we emailers are in the Stormtrooper's list, I will probably go for that one. My Monstro is "only" the Carbon Body (which I love, by the way), and I would love to have had a stormtrooper body back then. So this time, I hope I don't miss the train!

Love what everyone is putting out with the Komodo so far. Its definitely capable of imagery punching well above its weight.
 
I wonder if they listen to the feedback of the early Users and would make some mechanical changes to the camera or is it only for crash testing the FW and teasing the public?

Phil told Jarred that the foot below the mount hits the speedbooster lens support which is a bummer as you’ll have to shave the speedbooster support. What is this foot for?

The fan is also blowing to the left side of the camera, in your face, if you imagine having it on your shoulder (which some folks plan to do). Wouldn’t it be possible to invert that sens? Is it too late to listen to those feedbacks?
 
I don't know what do you all guys think but from what i've seen so far, i really feel that Red is entering the "Arri" territory in term of color science and dynamic range / Highlight rolloff, the creaminess and color of some shots truly impressed me.
Graeme has touched something special here..

I am planning to invest in a camera pretty soon and I am considering to go with the Komodo.

Do you thing that this camera will be able to stand as an A camera to a production ? (Jarred mentioned that was created in order to have a high quality footage in scenes that they used go pros)

Will be netflix approved camera ?

There is no doubt it can be a great A cam. From a quality and DR standpoint, it absolutely should be approved by Netflix. The GoPro reference was just "WHY" they needed a smaller, cheaper utility camera. There is no comparison between Komodo and GoPro except for small form factor. As best as I can tell, if you don't need higher frame rate footage, this may be the best out-of-the-camera color and DR that Red has ever made. Maybe that is over stating the case, but it is very good.

Wow. I'm so naive. I thought that by getting the email I'd been selected to have the opportunity to purchase it as long as I responded in a reasonable time. I responded in an hour and a half, which apparently means I was WAY out of the running! Sucks, I was so stoked about the yellow! I guess the stormtrooper is the best I can hope for – the world is on fire and the fabric of our society is up for debate, I've got better things to do than refresh my email every 5 minutes :P

From what I've seen it has more noise than the Dragon/Monstro at 6k (and probably lower DR). But it's still impressive.
