  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Is there any information about high iso performance? Does the global shutter give a higher read-out noise level? I'm very curious which iso levels will be usable for run&gun available light stuff that will be viewed mostly online.

I have followed most of this thread and I believe this question is a little premature. Does anyone know what the specs on dynamic range are or will be on this sensor? Curious if this new sensor will break the cap of most smaller sensor cameras of 13 stops.

Yes as we sit, Komodo dynamic range is within half a stop of Helium in both Rolling shutter and Global shutter modes.

If that implies that there isn't a huge hit on DR for selecting global shutter, even if the global shutter changes where the exposure range sits, that is great news.

Yeah there is no discernible difference in range... to the point where we internally are considering not even having the rolling shutter option.

That's HUGE.
Especially with Helium being one of the highest scoring sensor on DXO. I know, charts aren't everything, but it looks very promising indeed.

Yes, Komodo is shaping up to be a real game changer in its intended market. Helium IQ, global shutter, well under $10k for a decent package. What's not to like?

I don't know if you mentioned anything about it but are there any frame rate differences between global and rolling? Because if there are, I mean I personally would be fine with rolling if it meant there was a difference that was substantial enough.

Justin,

This is what Jarred stated earlier in the thread.

Sounds like a winner on all accounts!

I know that including more features has an impact on the software development cycles, but maintaining the option for a rolling shutter might help when mixing footage with that of the DSMC2 line...?

Any idea if that JLo-Bayhem feature used rolling or global shutter on the Komodo bits?

This is what I have been waiting for...since the RED one...I have loved the DR upgrades and other features, but this is the big one I have been waiting for. Bravo boys!

Wow! And would the black shade calibrations carryover from one shutter option to the other?

nope no difference.

Are we getting close to knowing more of the solid specs of Komodo? Native ISO... will Komodo do well in low light?
