  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

I was watching the commercial last night after it was posted here, and I assumed all the drone shots and the handheld stuff in the thief's face at the beginning were all Komodo. It'll be interesting whenever we get a finalized breakdown of what camera was used for each shot... however.. with that being said...

It's pretty apparent that the camera works... that's all I needed to see... take my money Jarred. I need a travel size RED asap.

I have to ask...
Was this one also shot with a Komodo somewhere ?

(because Jason Momoa)

Hold your horses.. we still are working on the details. Remember Hydrogen was a completely separate company from RED Camera so it's more complicated than it should be. But we should have a plan soon.

I think I'm gonna break this forum up now.. We are still a few months away but things are starting to move very quickly and we are starting to move from topic to topic a little to fast.

new section ! yaay !

After 377+ pages this is what we want to know:(1) when is Komodo going to be actually released? (2) will any of Komodo's improvements eventually make their way back to the other cameras in the lineup: Montstro with C-Fast cards, 6G/12G SDI outputs (Redraw and in all resolutions/framerates to external devices)....etc

The day the Monsto sensor trickles down to the Epics or (in the distant distant future) to the Komodo, that my friends, would try be a good day to be alive. Monstros are down to 40K used, so I only have 2-5 more years before I can afford one :-( Considerings selling a kidney for an Alexa mini, so hopefully the used Monstro pieces will continue to decrease to below kidney donation prices. I wish I had 3 kidneys.

Who would wish for three kidneys when you could wish for 3 monstros? :nads: Looks like world peace takes the back seat of the bus, yet again!

The used Monstro bodies have been in the low 40s for a while now. Since the big price change. It'd take another big price change or lineup addition (like DSMC3) to further reduce the price. Even then, I don't anticipate it'll drop due to Komodo release. The sensor is fantastic and well worth the used price. I hope you get one for yourself soon!

Somebody has to ask...

Could the spread of the Coronavirus delay production of Komodo?
I mean, workers in China have to protect themselves from that virus, therefore I hope they won't go to work as long as their health is at stake.

But maybe Komodo is not made in PRC, I don't even know...

Luckily we don't use Sony sensors so that article doesn't affect us, but we do use some chinese components and some of our vendors do have factories in China so it could definitely cause some turbulence. As of yesterday though China is saying all is back to normal come next monday... so we need to wait to see what happens Monday. Obviously the workers safety should (hopefully) be the priority. But even if the shut down extends, our manufacturing and sourcing team has done a great job already making a backup plan, and most of our external vendors have done an incredible job spinning up alternative paths for the stuff we don't do here in the USA in Mexico, Japan, Europe and Singapore. Mexico is really impressing us right now... we may do a lot more there down the road.

So.. lets wait till next week to see what happens. We just put up the 12 week target calendar up on the weekend after we locked mechanicals, and everything is still in the green. If China needs to shut down for another week or two, then we will just pivot to somewhere else with minimal delay. Stormtroopers might end up costing a few hundred dollars more if we do need to relocate those parts, but the normal production cameras should be unaffected, even if China goes completely sideways.

All part of the crazy manufacturing roller coaster ride.......

Always ahead of the curve!
Thanks Jarred :)
Looking forward to the Stormtroopers!!!

Sweet I'll throw my hat in for stormtrooper #7 since it hasn't been claimed yet LOL :)

OOOOO Chrome Stormtrooper Monochrome :D

I like the way you think!

Obviously my Stormtrooper and Monochrome Stormtrooper (Sandtrooper?) will be for personal use only, but I don't think a chrome finish can last that long without scratches or chips...
