Oh!! You have changed the design of the power button!

Absolutely, was just curious if they were planning to make it a priority to boot faster than the DSMC2 cameras. I concur, it'd be great if it fired up nice and quick!
Apologies if this has been covered before. I know Komodo is not an A cam, but will it have TC/Genlock capabilities? Even with an added module of some sort?

Wanted to touch down on a few topics:

Media Cards
Just want to provide some insight on media cards in general.
If we're looking at CFast and CFexpress range style cards they have a printed max read and write speed on them. Almost always this refers to the burst speed read/write and provides not much info on what we as filmmakers care about.
What we do care about is Sustained Reads/Writes. That generally informs us of what the media can actually do and how that speed can be utilized in a camera.
But there's more. Flash Media behaves differently at different points in it's life as well as under different temperature conditions. And you need to also provide a little more room when figuring out what you can do due to individual media variance.
This is a fun thing because on the web most media tests are pretty short and sweet, but never under long term study nor varying conditions. Sort of the reason why companies do so many stress tests on stuff like.
We're discovering a lot on the latest generation of CFexpress cards and they do get bloody hot. They are a faster media for sure than CFast, but I'm going to be curious to see how 1-3 months in on rigorous shooting conditions treats them. I suspect this is why the C500 MK II and FX9 don't exactly hit anything close to the max sustained read/writes. But that's just a hunch.
Powering Komodo
At the moment it's Canon BP. And yes you can use a V-Lock plate to Lemo cable adapter to Komodo for real long runtimes. I'm not 100% sure, but I think a V-Mount adapter could be made to slap on the booty of the Komodo which would pair well w/ the newer GDU batteries that just dropped today and they are nearly exactly 4 inches tall. The other real gain there is longer uptime as well as crazy concepts like shark fins and all that for insane battery life without cables involved. If that's gonna be a thing I hope that's ready around launch.
Monitoring/B]
I think it's a stay tuned thing for now. Everybody is seeing the SDI cable solutions, but we have yet to see a pogo driven concept. I imagine that will be the next big drop from Jarred, but who knows, could be other stuff.
Maybe there is still a chance that they'll put these power and Rec buttons on the left side of the brick, for shoulder mount and Ronin S operators... Swap with the audio I/O?
I hope the great Jacques Jouffret who shot the tests talked to Jarred about that. Maybe one of the "little changes"?
But I think it might be too late already, anyway I'll survive.
nope...
But Jacques ( and of course Bay ) gave a ton of great input over the last few days.
This "test" was incredibly valuable... Komodo was right at home throwing down nicely side by side with it's big brothers.
I own an FS7 and typically work with rented cameras (Red/Arri/Venice) for non-doc stuff with a little budget. The FX9 and C500 II both are very attractive as potential upgrades, on the one hand; on the other, last year I nearly pulled the trigger on a Scarlet-W. But I've been holding off on a decision until there's been a chance to really evaluate Komodo.
They're all quite different cameras-- but are part of the same discussion about investment as an owner-operator. Setting aside my thoughts on full frame, I see the FX9 as a nice direct upgrade to the FS7 (lots of image upgrades at an attractive price, timecode, etc.), and the C500II as better able to play a bit both in doc and narrative/commercial world due to the availability of a higher res RAW workflow. With the FX9, I'd still be renting for most narrative stuff. But how often would the C500II be billable as a replacement for a Red or Arri, or would I still always be renting-- and with a more expensive camera that you can't just throw up on your shoulder the way you can an FS7? So, while a lot about the Komodo remains a question mark, I'm definitely one of those indie filmmakers interested in testing Komodo as an A-cam on the type of job where I'm currently renting a Scarlet-W or 6k Dragon. I'm excited about the idea of being able to offer Red's proven capabilities in the narrative/commercial world (top-tier s35 image quality, modularity, post workflow) for an investment under $10k-- and with the benefit of a global shutter.
With this in mind, I personally care less about built-in ND than how secure the mount is when used with PL lenses, less about lack of dual ISO than image quality at base ISO, less about HDMI ports than SDI ports that are easy to access and practical power solutions. And I'm eager to learn about the codecs and compression options-- and how they play out in the real world.
Looking forward to learning about this stuff with all of the rest of you...
I've been lurking on this thread since it's conception.
I migrated here from H4Vuser I have to say I am super impressed with what is being teased.
Hydrogen is still a wild ride; excited to see it paired with my komodo in a few months.
One thing I don't see much discussion on anymore is a Stills mode for Komodo. Any chance that is still canon?
Greatly looking forward to all of the news in the next few weeks, you have me at the edge of my seat![]()
