  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

There is a reason pickup trucks look the way they do, and it is all about what they have to do. There is some pushing around of the envelope, but this version ONLY belongs on a movie set... okay I suppose cruising around the city so that people see you in a vehicle that looks like it belongs on a movie set is the other option. How well can you see the ground in front for approach angles and obstacle avoidance? How does it handle over-sized loads taller than the cab? Can you jacknife a fifth wheel trailer without crushing the bed sides that rise up to the roofline? How do you grab a chainsaw out of the front of the bed when those bed sidesare above your eyeline? Can you even install a fifth wheel hitch?

I could have lived with something I considered to be ugly but was amazingly functional, but this is form at the expense of function.

Elon should consider putting some test units in the oil patch, logging industry, and landscaping- and take their feedback seriously. Most pickups don't do much work, but the sales overall will suffer if your pickup CAN'T work.
Easy Clint,
That was Elons joke. Typical for him, the marketing master. Being here you should figure it out. I think the bullet proofing is also a joke since ball bearing is about the most effective way to brake glass- (don't ask me how I know that haha)
It's also Elons way to find out how brain wash...uhm DEVOTED fans are and if they can take a joke(and how much). The fans reactions that he probably watches very carefully tell him a lot about his fan base and will help him choose the best marketing strategy. Marketing 101 of the new millennium my friend ;-)

I’m confident that the finished product will exceed our expectations for both Cybertruck and Komodo. We are truly living in the future.

Yes. It seems so.

But the image circle on those lense is small than Komodo's sensor so you won't be able to use the lenses in 6KFF anyway.

I will have to disagree with you on that; his uncensored "OhMyFuckingGod" when the window shattered sounded too genuine. If this was a marketing move, it was one that made Elon look an out of touch amateur designer CEO who refused to take criticism or do any research. If he wants to take any sales from established pickup manufacturers, this is not what will do that- and if he changes the design to a functional one, will those who ordered this version be happy with one that looks more like a traditional pickup? It looks to me like he has trapped himself in a bit of a lose:lose scenario, where the only way to get a significant share of the pickup sales requires him to disappoint the few "DEVOTED fans" who did love this design. This makes a lot of people question his other business decisions.

As a far bigger fan of SpaceX than of Tesla, I can only hope that the Cyber Truck is an anomaly, a matter of great engineering development being overshadowed by not enough time in research from his time being stretched in too many directions. Come on Elon, sell off Tesla and focus on making humanity a space faring species.

Devoted fan, I rest my case haha

Further background

Further background

More background to the Cybertruck glass.
It seems that the night before the unveiling, it was reported that the same steel ball was thrown against the same windows 5 times, without breaking the glass.
The glass engineers cautioned that the glass should be replaced or do not do the demonstration because of possible micro-cracking in the glass.
The glass was not replaced.
Bottom line, it might very well be ok once, but just like a helmet, replace after one hard hit.

And here it comes- the back ground story. Oh boy.... If one knows anything about glass....never mind ;-)

They tested it all day. Repeatedly throwing the steel ball at it. Here is some behind the scene footage:

https://youtu.be/AcgDwoHMzDY

Would normal glass stand up to this kind of repeated abuse? It’s a work in progress. Rest assured, they will figure it out.

I own two civilian H1s and one military humvee. I also have some normal looking trucks. Elons truck looks the way it does partially due to clearances. Similar to how the Humvees have their wheels pushed to the front and back.

I don't see much benefit to a vertical windshield so a sloped windsheild is fine.

The flatbed seems useable although the slope doesn't allow for cargo to go across the top of the bed...but in all my time using trucks I've never had a need to do that. So again although it's an unusual design I don't see a downside that outweighs the positives.

I wonder if it covers in 6K HD? Or if the lens is zoomed in just a little past 18mm. I am typically not shooting the full width of the sensor anyways haha.

Been following the thread for a long time now, looking forward to hear more about the camera. I am planning to get one like many of you. I had some questions about wireless & monitoring—would love to hear your guys thoughts. Hard to say since most of the details are pretty vague.

- what do you guys imagine for using wireless monitoring? seems like we would have to out from the on board monitor or split the SDI. not super ideal but i’m not sure else what other options are there. was thinking of maybe using the 503 bolt... but not super keen on that monitor and not sure what type of setup for power (p tap) would look like.

- anyone worried about the idea of only one built in SDI port?
I feel like it would suck if it got damaged or had any issues; if we want to use traditional on board monitors it seems like everything relies on that one port. personally I don’t imagine using the built in monitor unless in a pinch or trying to keep a low profile.

The shallow angle might make shedding snow a problem- or the clean drop off the front might make it better. There is a lot of front facing glass to catch rocks on gravel roads and most every windshield I've seen like that leads to horrible visibility for your front end- but I would have to sit in the driver seat to know.

This quick hack-job in Photoshop would give it the ability to accept a roof-rack, carry a camper, haul a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer, carry a load across the bed, retrieve tools from the bed over the side without having to climb into the bed, accept a dry-box for carrying more tools... in other words it would make it possible for it to function as a work truck.

As I said before, I am not going to conform specs until I am actually holding it in my hands and it's working :)

That is how this peek behind the curtain needs to work, It's the best way, really the only way, to separate dreams from reality.

will some of the people you've shown using the Komodo post footage they've shot?

I think we've reached the inevitable conclusion of this thread...

The Komodo will now be incorporated into the base model of the Tesla Cybertruck. The Komodo will also be made of bulletproof materials.

Most emphatically not to be tested with the Tesla Armour Piercing Ballbearing(tm)

The biggest unanswered question at the moment is perhaps the expected DR. Can we expect something in the ballpark of current Red sensors? Most of them around 16-17 total stops or 14 stops of usable DR based on how you count.

I think in this industry its difficult to bring something to market thats a step back. So my guess is it will be on par with helium and gemini in terms of DR. If Söderberg leaves his monstros on the shelf to shoot with this thing it cant be all bad. But then again he used an iphone on his last film. Time will tell I guess.
