:-) Now ask him about the shitty max frame rate.

nahh. what we really wanna ask ... when can we get a hold of one ... for me anyway I already found the perfect project for it ... so its not a deal breaker if its 120 fps or 240 fps max frame rate on lower res ...

The pic of the top is what I figured it to be, a Z Cam-type menu system, but thankfully with a bigger screen and better handle options. What I like the best with my Red is how easy it is to use with the top handle, the Komodo will be much easier in this regard. I do hope that Red could figure out a top handle that still enables the use of an external monitor (or Hydrogen) connection to the top as it is on the DSMC2's.

Now, at least 6K at 50 Fps is what I hope for. People dismiss framerate options as not being needed, but it's the most common feature used on set by many. Doing commercial work without some higher framerates is very limiting.

A quick trip to Photoshop reveals a better look at the screen dimensions.

... Or the thing it does really well is shoot 1:1 aspect ratio 6K footage to make Instagram movies ?
(please Jarred tell me I'm wrong... XD)

It could be a 1:1 sensor (6000x6000?) and thus a great SoMe camera for simultaneous 16:9/9:16/1:1/5:4 etc crops...
Maybe an attached Hydrogen will add streaming capabilities and proxy recording too? :)

I kinda was joking. Well, it could be a 1:1 sensor, sure, but I doubt it and don't wish it.
Either a standard DCI 1.9:1 or, as Michael Cioni was talking about in one of his NAB talks : a 2:1 aspect ratio sensor.

+1 for 3:2 but the display on the top Im guessing is a touch panel to control the menu.

Yes, that’s my thoughts as well. If taking size into consideration, that monitor is pretty small for anything other than settings. I’m thinking a bigger version of the sidekick settings display with maybe added histogram views.

wow what a reveal of komodo's top! AWESOME! The Screen on the top reminds me a lot on the design of my old Mamiya 645 and RZ67. I always liked to take photos like that. LO

RZ67... still one of my all time favorite cameras.... as you can tell :)

It’s no coincident that you posted a pic of it on insta probably around the time the concept for Komodo was being locked down

I hope there will be an EVF mount option that can take advantage of the POGO pins too.
Also suggest a bottom mount handle option with a record trigger. Opens up a minimalist handheld option for a light camera like this similar to my Bolex rig.

Wonder who will be the first to build a Komodo 6K BulletTime Rig ..... .. 100 Komodos in a row .. now that would be something ....

If the top were a built-in display, it'd likely have to be 1:1 for a 3:2 sensor so that there'd be room for the GUI below/beside the image... Kinda like how DSMC displays are always 1280x800/1920x1200 even though the sensor/image is horizontal 1.9:1 aspect ratio...

Or not, who knows!
