KOMODO....

I've never used one but it does look pretty good. Out of my price range though. I'm thinking speed booster plus canon L / Sigma EF glass for now.

sounds like a solid lens solution. personally, i have been building out my Contax C/Y primes and am really looking forward to [hopefully] pair them with Komodo. i also hope to build a 15mm rail system, fly a small v-mount off the back and tilta nucleus-m handgrip off the right hand side.

on another note, the smallHD monitors are all on sale at b&h right now. i'm torn to grab one while they're cheaper or wait until the camera releases.

I'm holding off buying anything until we have a bit more info (data rates, dynamic range, pre-record, release date) and some sample footage. Not that I expect to be disappointed - I think the Komodo may well be perfect for me.

Its been too quiet from Jarred lately. Plus I'm obviously having too much spare time.
I wanted to feel the size of the camera myself! Luckily I have a 3D printer...

This is a 4"x4"x4" cube cut very roughly to shape of a Komodo.

Sold my Helium over a year ago, and just sold my ZF.2 set. Going all-available-in on RF glass.
The wider FOV with the Komodo sensor vs the EOS R will be really nice.

Looking at the rig, I feel i should go the BP-9xx route for powering the camera. It will be such a nice and compact setup.

Awesome work Eirik!

right on. likely i will do the same. @alex @billy those are some interesting monitor options, any other recommendations for sdi monitors? i am imagining a 7" monitor will feel pretty large on the komodo so i am most interested in 5" setups.

i've always used the on-board red touch monitors (mostly the dsmc2 7") and i've learned to trust them a lot. i have never had a problem with them... our old dsmc1 5" monitor is fading quite a bit now though. it will be interesting to explore third party options now.

also @eirik, those pictures are great! nice work man, they are really helpful.

Not sure it’s possible with voltage etc, but I wish the Komodo was powered off one inspire 2 battery. With their auto discharge, built in heater, light weight, and badass 8 at a time charging pelican case they seem like the best option imo. Seems like it’s the perfect size. Plus tons of people already run their MōVI and cameras off them. Not looking forward to dropping tons of cash on yet another set of batteries and lugging around yet another type of charger.

Perhaps it might be possible to create a module to accept one inspire 2 battery ?

actually just came across something pretty cool. anyone know of other battery brands that build a d-tap into the bp-9 style battery? never seen it before, but that could solve a lot of problems for me.

The CORE Nano series batteries (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...nano_c98_14_8v_battery_with.html?sts=pi&pim=Y) come with built-in D-tap and usb.

I could go for a prior-end-of-tax-year preorder opportunity. :001_tongue:

I shared these core nano batteries up the other day but some said that they were the wrong style and Komodo takes the older bp-9 series of batteries. So I’m not sure.

Would be great to double check the conformation of style the Komodo uses. BP-9 or BP-a?

BP-9.

I've been using the vari ND Canon EF to RF adapter in my EOS R and it's not magic as you'd imagine. It has the same issues as other vari nd filters and polarizers. Some windows have nd's on it and their interfere with the nd. The same thing with smartphone screens, etc.
I got in touch with "Aurora" and they are planning to release a set of fixed ND filters for this adapter soon, great news.

By the other hand, it would be really really awesome to have the Samyang/Rokinon natively designed APS-C mirrorless lenses in RF mount. Right now they sell them for E, X and M43 mounts and i think it's easy to adapt to R as it's the same flange distance as M43. They have a cute set of 12f2, 21 f1.4, 35f1.2, 50 f1.2 and 85 f1.8 lenses that would be a great match for the little Komodo. I'm wondering if someone here has a dirtect contact with Samyang/Rokinon for the request.

Just FYI, Kippertie is working on a PL Revolva for the Komodo...

It's good to hear that. They make things with lenses precision.
I hope its not this https://www.amazon.com/SMALLRIG-Adapter-Support-Metabones-Compatible/dp/B07KXVBBN3/ref=sr_1_46?keywords=SMALLRIG&qid=1575628867&sr=8-46
Maybe this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1076926-REG/wooden_camera_wc_175900_pl_mount_for_red.html
OR much better like this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1433390-REG/red_digital_cinema_725_0044_dsmc_s35_al_pl.html
I know they think out of box and will come up with something interesting.
