  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

I can sympathize with your buddy's story, that is never fun. That anecdote makes it all the more apparent how important RAW is. Having only just stepped into it myself in the past year, and I am by no means a rock star colorist XD, it is incredible how RED is pushing the industry forward.

I saw in another post that you won't be submitting to RED's festival, I'm sure whatever you have in the works for next year will be nutty! :)

For me Color, as a final edit after all, are the crucial final steps to one's work, and for this I would never again accept any one doing any of the two for me, meaning not without me, supervising every step of it, as it needs to be my work after all, not theirs.

Yea, I actually never participated to any contests of any kind, but I would have if I had the time to do it, and funny thing is that I'll have the next entire month of December all to my self to shoot al kinds of fun projects, on both Epic Mr. Monochrome and Epic M8, also now at last having fun with the new R90 as soon as it arrives, making my life in Portraits shoots so much easier, meaning that I will do many more of them now, for both Video release in Portrait mode, as well as Still Frame Extractions.

The R90 is on the way to Italy... Mr. Monochrome and M8 await eagerly for some serious Fashion Portraits shoots... ;)

Generally I don't learn article on phorums, however I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to check out and do it! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thank you, very great article.

Hi Ketch. We got our Epic today. 9" screen, 512GB SDD, Sachtler Video 20 S1 head and all. Thanks for all the tips for what to get.
Now, I erm, just wish that the ssd usb3 station wasn't delayed since I cannot move any photage to the computer.
But on the positive side more time in behind the camera and less in front of the computer!

The Red primes are extremely awesome lenses. I totally understand what you mean about their quality now.
Thanks again :D

Thank you for you kind words and it will continue to be my great pleasure to write both here in this community and on my own blog on our site, thanks again Jaime.

CONGRATS Andreas!!

Yes, if it wasn't for my absolute love of the Hair Thin DOF which forced me to spend 5 times as much with Master Primes, and Leica Cine Primes, I would never have sold my sets of RED Lenses, as they are that good, so I am happy you got them.

I am also happy that I could do what ever little I did in provide any needed info so that you could make your decision, and again CONGRATS and welcome to this huge Family with RED.

I'm looking at matte boxes and I must say the Bright Tangerine Strummer seems like a truly fantastic one.
What recommendations would you have for filters. I think I will buy Tiffen filters, with panovision standar I guess.
I only have experience with filters from photography but then I would use a polarizer and maybe 2 ND grads. Which ones would you use?
Mmm, yes I understand about the master primes. In a few years I may just get a few as well, I also have an unhealthy passion with thin DOF. I'm very impressed with the sharpness of the Red Prime, and was pleasantly surprised how close I can focus with them. Not used to that coming from Canon lenses. They remind me a bit of macro lenses!

Cheers and feels great to be part of the family, I feel very welcome. :)

As far as MB I sold the Arri line of MB's and moved to the Strummer form Bright Tangerine, so obviously that is what I suggest, shoot me an email and I'll give you the info on it, same for the Filters, I use Clear Water White ones by Schneider which are by far the best, even so for B&W Tiffen are the only ones.

And actually depending on what you need I might be able to spare one of the several sets I got.

Breaking the 2 Million views on the SkydiveDubai video I Directed and Shot last year with fellow Filmmakers is a nice filling, and so are the great majority of comments, much, much appreciated

I'm jealous. :-)

He he, don't be... As Mr. Monochrome got prepped for yet an other Fashion Film, I'll soon start filming a nice FilmDoc of Italy, so in one of those shots around Tuscany we could end up shooting together... ;)

Yep absolutely.
Let me know.

I was unusually surprised by the RPZ 18-50mm. It can focus within a few inches of the barrel. Most Primes I see have a CF past 12".

Master primes for example CF 14" to 4'11" on the 150mm.

Ultra's "best" lens, the 14mm, CF's at one foot.

I'm very impressed with the sharpness of the Red Prime, and was pleasantly surprised how close I can focus with them. Not used to that coming from Canon lenses. They remind me a bit of macro lenses!

Ketch. Congrats on the video views!

Did I hear that you order 3 sets of "Nighthawks?"

Rumors? :)

Did you ever get the Lecia Summilux Prime set [T1.4]?

Thanks Will... ;)

Don't always believe the rumors, they usually don't reflect the truth... Or at list not all of it... ;)

I am schedule to receive the Leica Cine Primes, early next year.

You getting the complete set or a five set?

Yo can't get anything other then the full set as it was set up at the time of order, which is for 8 lenses, then you can add the other Focal separately, in priority of order number, but I'll need to do some more tests to actually make final decision if go Leica or not.

Leica, Master Prime, it's going to be good either way. :)
