  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

Hey Ketch , great BTS shots :) not quite sure are you around the pantheon or campo de fiori? 5th picture from the top? Though the streets all look pretty similar :) around the corner of the pantheon is one of the greatest espresso places i've ever been to :)

Btw how do you like the rear ssd module? What makes it "better" than the side ssd? When shooting alone does that really make a difference?

All the best from stuttgart!

Actually that is my street, Via Di Parione, behind Piazza Navona, a continuation of Piazza Della Pace... ;)

The rear SSD is great, for more then one reason, first one being the double capacity, of continuos recording, for me the 512GB can't come fast in off, as I shoot lots of High frame rates for this project and high fashion work plus HDRx the media just goes fast!!

Also don't forget that when using the Battery Pro Module, with XL Redvolts, the SSD from the SH does not come out, so the rear SSD comes in handy in this situation as well, not that is a big deal at all to remove the Battery pop out the recorded SSD, insert an other and then re-insert the XL Redvolt, but I like options, and RED gives them, so we are happy... ;)

My next set up we are using is really showing the power of modularity and how a small Epic becomes a BIG BOY... ;)

Glad you like it Brett, and thanks for the kind words about it, your age range is also very important to this story, even so it will be Rated "R" I'll largely push for parents to take their kids 14 and up to see it, as it gives strong messages that they need to receive about Sex, Love and Violence, which can come form the most unexpected person.

Honestly looking forward for it. - When are you planning your big release?

Thanks Kirk,

till when we had financing lined up for it, the release date was Christmas 2012, but now that is self financed, I don't have release date for it as of yet.

Mostly because I'm trying to see and move forward but also go ahed and look to get more fundings for it.

Some more tests for the "RAPE of a BEAUTY" this are in my place in Rome, and btw, the GEARNEX Gear Head ROCKS!!! I'll show you a coll add on that I got form the boys that allows a Super TILT.

Oh, and since some one asked on FB about the set up pieces, I'll place it here as well:

RED EPIC (of course) with the Side Handle Grip, the Module Adaptor, the Quad Battery Module with 2 XL REDVOLTS, the SSD Module, and the Redmote, on top I have the RED Top Mount Adjustable, with the Top handle and Touch Screen LCD, on the opposite site is the 3Ality Technica EVF Mount system, and the Red OLED EVF , the lens is the Red Pro Zoom, 18-85mm, and I have the O'Connor FF1 Double FF suystem, the MB is the Red Pro Matte Box, the Support the Red Quick Pro release system, with 2x18" Carbon X Rods, and thunder the lens is the Arri support piece (one of the very last Arri pieces about to go) , and the Optitek, 18-85 support and handle kit, the GEARNEX Gear Head, and the Sticks are the Sachtler 2000.

Ketch,

How much battery life do you get out of the quad module with 2 RedVolt XLs?

Have not timed Will,

but today one Redvolt in the side handle grip, and two XL Redvolt in the Quad Battery Module, made me forget I was on Battery Power, we were out there for at list three hours, and still had power when I shot off the camera, also both the EVF and LCD were on, and shooting high frame rate at 5k with the fan at full blast in a 40º Plus Celsius here in Rome, makes for higher power consumption, but of course we were on stand by most of the time, so no real way to give a good statistic on this.

Is your shoulder mount setup still using the ET dovetail and Clutch arms? We were in a long gear purchasing session last night and your pics came up more than a few times. :)

My current concern with the shoulder setup is counter balance and having the weight evenly distributed. Looking at either the ET mount with 15mm quickplate for front attachments with O Gribs on our O Box mattebox or using the back end of the Clutch with O Gribs/O Box. The trouble with the RED shoulder pad, as you pointed out before, no ability to change the angle degree, but it does look good, nonetheless.

I know you are constantly evolving your workflow and gear to meet you needs, thanks for the advice.

If you change your battery display from % to timed it will give you an idea how long the XL will last ya.

REDVOLT's are about 35 minutes, a Brick is about 2:20. In the quad module, it seems like the life on the Volts goes up when together as one unit.

Now I'm ready to go on vacation... ;)

These pictures give me the same fear that I had when I first saw the Epic design... It's still an unknown how sturdy all of those modules will stay with so much weight hanging off the back.. I fear that in 2-3 years of use with a set up like the one above (or with even more modules) those connectors will start to come loose.

I currently have bits and pieces of the Clutch and the Mantis, waiting on a shoulder Pad solution, as neither the one form the Clutch nor the Mantis fit my need.

However I might look again in to the clutch back support system to give the module the support they need, and or create a Custom set up here in Italy.

Well, fact is that this XL Redvolts really do give you lots of Power time and that is very good.

The connectors of the Module Adapter are super SOLID, I can see this thing been there for a life time and the EPIC BRAIN not suffer any issues, and everything else fits to the Module Adapter, so if anything at all it would be the Module Adaptor to be replaced, and not the Epic Brain, the beauty of MODULARITY... ;)

Here I also place the videos form the Brazil workshop, UPDATED.

Hey guys,

sorry it has been taking a whiile to do this, but both João and I have been extremely busy, and I thank João for finding the time to edit and start uploading this BTS Videos of our RED EPIC Workshop in Campina Brazil last March.

This was a particular workshop done for a small and select group of people in Brazil which worked in different fields of the industry and for the first time came across RED, this will still be very informative to some, and give a start to some.

A comprehensive BTS Video is coming which will be shot here in Rome, with the Title of "EPIC in FASHION" and it will take you from A to Z on getting the EPIC set up, and then get lighting and Flash set up to shoot your Models and take the material to post and finally to Print.

But for now I hope you start enjoying this videos, 5 in al, two are already up.

A HUGE THANKS to João and every one in Brazil.

ALBUM is located here: https://vimeo.com/album/2053312

I'll add the videos here as soon as they get uploaded.

The third video is now up... Enjoy it... ;)

Thanks Ketch, your sharing of your technological understanding and experiential wisdom in cinematography is very generous and highly appreciated. waiting for more :)
