  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ketch + Epic + Canon Mount

Ketch that looks awesome buddy!

Thanks Charlie,

it kind of brakes my heart to post such highly compressed images, but such is the internet, this is a 75MB 5K image shrinked down a 1200x600 about 212KB... yet still holding... ;)

Can't wait to make some 13x19 prints... ;)

I don't entirely understand. I've read a lot here but it's not clear to me. With the regular redmote are you able to adjust focus on the canon lenses remotely? Not including the AF. I mean can you adjust focus incrementally with the redmote?

Can someone post a video demonstrating how this is done? I watched the video Jarred posted using the 5 inch monitor and the canon mount already so please don't direct me to that post.

Thanks in advance,

James

Yes James, when the RTEDMOTE is out you will be able to use the the REDMOTE's Pro well to Focus the Canon Lenses wirelessly to the distance allowed by the REDLINK connection... ;)

Ketch, thanks so much for taking the time to do all this. Your input is incredibly valuable. I'm totally sold on the idea of Canon glass. Looking forward to buying a mount.

My pleasure Kris, and thanks for the kind words, and oh, yeah, RED E. CANON mount on EPIC ROCKS... ;)

Oh, need to post this first color graded pass by fellow REDUSER Colorist Bryan Rowland, even so the actual internal color of the Sunflower is Yellow/Green and not as Brown, still great work, thanks!!

Oh wow, incredible what color grading does. It suddenly looks 3 dimensional.

He he, yeah, I was not going to post the ungraded image, but since I felt there was the need to post something I did, can't wait to get my place up and running here in Florence,
so that I can edit and grade all footage and frame grabs before posting as it doe sin deed make an incredible difference, and it showcases with far more justice the work down,
and the capabilities of the Gear, thank again Bryan for the color grade... ;)

Very Nice Ketch ! The detail man! I can barely imagine the centre of the flower projected at 5k - Beautiful - Keep it coming :)

Thanks Kirk,
and Yeah that is why I said, I really dislike current internet pipelines, and kinda of been pushed in to compressing an image so much for posting,
as it give ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTICE, to the image note the work, or the capacity of both the shooter and the gear, but at list we see something... ;)

Also this was a quick shot, under the wind, with the Sunflower moving, no Sutter correction shot at 24fps, @ 1/48 shutter, under a sun so hot I tough that the camera was either
to health or blow up in my face, or at the very list SHOT DOWN, but fortunately, it didn't and just never stopped working, WOW, thanks for EPIC!!

However I will be sure to never do that again, just I was not there with my mind, and leaving the camera for about a full hour under the scorching summer sun at 42 degrees Celsius was not cool,
and since I didn't touch the camera any were other then int he rubber well of the REDMOTE which was in the back and in shaw, I didn't realize how HOT the al camera was till I touched to take it away HOUCH!!

LESSON TO BE LEARNED AGAIN!! NEVER GO FILMING OUT O THE SUN WITHOUT A HUGE UMBRELLA TO SHADE YOURSELVES AND THE CAMERA... ;)

Nice Shot Ketch,
I also like to see some samples at night under Practical and tungsten in long shot with moving subject, would be nice to see the color Abreation in sach a condition

Thanks guys,

Esmaile,

I wil do some exterior night shots as well, in fact we have a tremendous range of shots planned away, but as this brings me to travel some great distances and in fact as posted,
I am also meeting Kaku in Japan for a great Fashion shoot, there will be plenty of shots coming, and believe me when I say I will test all the Canon glass I can in various Photographic conditions,
and one thing of which you can rest assure is that tested they will be, as I think I qualify to say myself as a Canon Lens expert, after so many years using them, and if all goes well,
a CANON chief representative will meet us in Japan, and with Kaku we'll have at our disposal the entire CANON "L" series range,
as well as few Non "L", which I consider to be impressive glass, for both price and weight.

So stay up to speed on the threads here and on the Epic M owners one as I'll be posting as I shoot.

Thanks Norbert, I think next in line is the "SEXY HDRx Barn Shot"... ;)

So we can test the EF 17-40mm f/4L the sharpest wide angle zoom in the "L" series lined up, not the tastes but also to consider that it is also 1/3 the price of the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II,
don't even consider the first edition of the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L, just not good in off, but the V.II is much improved, still, unless you need the taster aperture,
I would chose the much less expensive and sharper EF 17-40mm f/4L lens.

BTW in honor of RED I chose a RED head girl for the Barn shoot, which will be shot from inside the Barn, while the girl approaches form the Sunny mid day in a see thru dress... ;)

Lovin'it, this thread is awesome, getting better and better!

Hi Ketch,

When I first looked at the (ungraded) sunflower shot, I thought it looked rather mediocre.
But that color grade did wonders. Suddenly the photo shined and had a proper EPIC pedigree :001_smile:.

Jarred, I'm definitely down for one of the early Canon mounts if you can spare one, given that I exclusively use Canon glass on everything I shoot!

Ketch, looking forward to catching up again when you arrive here in Japan! Depending on when you arrive exactly I may already have my Epic-X in hand, especially if my number is early enough to get in on the first batch of shipments (R1 #378 delivered 14th Feb 2008).

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)
