  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

June Update

Thanks, Jarred. Enlightening.

Showing my lack of knowledge in the process of making sensors: I always thought that "ovens" and "baking" were figurative terms. Do these things really go in an oven?
OK, you can stop laughing now :)

Yes UV ovens even though there are normal heat ovens a few places in the process. Here is an old school video on how they make CCD's which are made a bit differently than CMOS but get you the general idea:

Jarred, just curious... Once the sensor makes it to an acceptable finished stage is there a further step that can cause it to be rejected?

O yes, once a successful probe is done it is only a quarter the way through QC... we then package the sensors, check, put them on the boards, check , put them into the cameras and check. And we check much much deeper than anyone else.. so lots of room for things to go sideways.

The whole process is pretty fascinating and immaculate. If you have ever seen my office you will understand why they don't let me in that building anymore :)

If you saw my office, Jarred, you wouldn't even let me own the two Dragons that I own.

Hehe

Thanks for the updates!

P.S. A picture of your office would make my day, though. Including the secret prototypes of whatever you guys are making sitting on it.

Thanks for the response, Jarred! Always cool to get some insight on the process.

Josh I know you just had a baby. My wife gave birth to our second child, a little boy just yesterday....It gives me something to put things into perspective! Can't wait to get some .r3ds of the little man.....Newborns make great subjects, and there is the added benefit of the fact that they can't go running off and out of frame!

It is because we cannot find clean room scrubs tall enough for you.
