  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

6k is 30,72mm (Dragon pixel size is 0,005mm, so you can calculate the sensor area for any resolution easily).

Yes, right. 6144x0,005=30,72mm for 6k. Jarred talked about 6.7k. I dont know exactly what will be the resolution, but 6700x0,005=33,5mm. It should keep the vertical 21.6mm. So around 33.5 x 21.6mm for the ana model.

wow I really hope the 8k Ana option can come to mg weapon at some point. That would be fantastic for a lot of folks!

I guess even that is helpful, knowing it's a big difference between starting Dec 10 allocations vs. finishing them. Do you have an idea of the spread to fulfill Dec 10th? Just curious if that's a week or two, or would that take into July at least?

My timestamp is December 10, 2015 20:10, for what it's worth. I think the announcement was 6:25pm PST, so I'm in the first two hours I think?

I don't think it will. It's difficult to make 8k sensors, I guess they use the ones that didn't make it for regular 8k but are enough for 6.7k and decided to make a ana model for people being mainly interested in anamorphic or being ok with spherical 6.7k. It's a clever move. Cheaper camera. Still incredible. And people will get their 8k camera sooner (6.7k buyers because there are probably more good 6.7k sensors out of the oven, and 8k because of the switchers).
You will have to upgrade.

very much looking forward to hearing about possible pricing/upgrading info with respect to the 8k Ana sensor. Makes sense that (while still difficult to make) there might be a lower price point for that option, whether it be in CF or Mg or both.

I am pretty sure (If I understand this right....) that the boards in a Mg won't support the data coming from an 8k sensor...so no go on upgrade. Jarred did once say you COULD actually do it, but that it would be cost prohibitive.

I guess I was thinking that 6.7k might require less processing power so to speak that the 8k. But even if that's not so, it seems that the 8k Ana option would cost less than the 8k spherical option - since the cropped sensors are at least a tiny bit easier to make? Maybe my thinking is too wishful. I'm still super excited to hear what options there may be for the Ana versions!

Ok, would EXPECT all of Dec 10 to be allocated in July. But like Jarred said, we just don’t know exact units until they are in hand. These are “current expectations”, not “guarantees.”

Oof, haha. Little bit of a bummer, but it is what it is! Thanks for the info, I think we got more answers in an hour than the Black Magic crowd got in a year!

Getting the DMSC2 side handle before I got the Scarlet-W was *not* a problem I anticipated having! Ah well. It will get here when it gets here.

Well, knowing something is a lot better than knowing nothing. In the meantime, I have been using the Epic Dragon that RED so freaking generously loaned me almost every day....and man, I NOW know their tricks. It sure makes me want to bump up my Scarlet-W (or Raven order) to a 6k Weapon. Now where is that extra $25,000 I had lying around. Anyone seen it???

As I have said, we are often on the same page, my timestamp is 19:38....that's a whopping 32 minutes mister!

Well, Brent is talking about ALL of Dec 10. There are still 4 hours after your timestamp until Dec 11, so many more orders. Maybe you will get it this month or first days of july.

Jarred/ Brent: wondering if Scarlet Dragons might be eligible for the "Epic-W" upgrade path as well? I'd love not having to go through the process of selling my cam & have the option of upgrading to the next tier up in the camera hierarchy. We do already have a 6K sensor. I'm thinking it might be a good idea. Appreciate all the work you guys put in.

Good point. Fingers crossed. But I still like thinking "end of July" just so I don't have my hopes up!
