  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

June Update

Sorry to badger, Brent, do you see Dec 10th orders being fulfilled this month? July? Like I said before, my shoots aren't relying on it by any means, but I've got a couple weeks of shooting that would be extra awesome if I had the Scarlet-W.

Yeah, my situation too, Nov. 30 timestamp on a Scarlet-W switch and work going by every week that would benefit big-time from the new camera. I got the sense from the Red team it was only a couple weeks out before Month-o-Raven, and perhaps late June/July now.

Obviously no one wants to start a landslide of "when is X time going to be allocated" questions. You guys can't answer all of them and no amount of complaining will speed the production up.

That said, I was wondering when the first day of Scarlet W preorders will start seeing allocations. People who ordered on the 10th and 11th. This seems like a reasonable landmark in the production mountain.

Thus far it seems no one who originally ordered a Scarlet W from the offset has received one. While the transparency of these posts are greatly appreciated, they have offered little good news or specifics for the non Raven switchers Scarlet W crowd.

As a Dec 10 order within 35 minutes of announcement, Im may or may not be getting really exciting as my wait is finally almost over. Keep doing great things Jarred and Brent! I'll post on here the very moment I get my allocation email so you guys know when the release night allocations have started!

It was actually instigated by Vantage/Hawk. The very first one was in their booth at Cinegear ;)

It is the same sensor as 8K VV but masked off the sides for Anamorphic ( or 6.7k spherical ) . Since the yield is higher on those they are a bit cheaper, but I wouldn't exactly call them "easy" to make.. they still will be slim pickings.

This is really terrific news! It's great to see RED working with other companies to get their customers these new and exciting options.

Does this mean that in 6.7k the VV "8k" anamorphic weapon can achieve the same field of view (with spherical lenses) that the VV8k spherical weapon can - just at the lower resolution?

Any chance the VV anamorphic version might be available in Mg weapons because of the slightly lower resolution?

Excited to learn more.

I think it might also be helpful to understand what's meant by "summer" and "fall". You can take summer as meaning June 21st - Sept 21st, fall Sept 21st - December 21st. Some people might think of Summer as "vacation months", so anytime between June - August. Probably getting into the weeds here, but might help to understand definitions. Also, thanks for the updates, much appreciated.

I'm still a little fuzzy on the 8k versions. Will the spherical sensor be able to handle spherical AND anamorphic?

Brent, I don't know if you are at liberty to answer this. But I think many of us would be calmer knowing this. How many cameras were shipped out in a month. I mean past months. 50? 100? 300?

YES!!! :ihih:

It's a cropped area of the 8k sensor, so it's a bit smaller field of view.

Yes. From what I understand they kept the same height on the ana model, it's just cropped on the side, more square.

Yeah, I think that almost certainly falls in the realm of "shit Red's competitors would pay good money to know".

I doubt he'll give that up!

Haha, yeeeeah that seems like something they wouldn't just publicly post. Plus, if they've been working on efficiency in their productions lines then past months not even be indicative of what they can fulfill going forward.

i would love to better understand this. How much larger a field of view would the 8k VV anamorphic have in 6.7k with spherical lenses than the 6k dragon currently has?

^ Yeah what he said :)

The sensor should be around 33.5mm large instead of 41mm for the 8k.

Start being allocated or all Dec 10 allocated? Big difference.

Forgive me as I'm not looking at the current 6k dragon specs - what is the measurement of the regular 6k dragon sensor for comparison?

i would love to get even a little bit closer to a "full frame" field of view when using modified still lenses or newer spherical lenses that cover larger sensors.

...
8K VV are getting slightly better as well.. We went through a few dud wafers for a bit there but Spherical and Anamorphic 8k VV should start popping up at the end of the month in very small numbers.
...
Thanks so much for listening, I know I have been asking my rep for a approximately 30mm by 20mm for anamorphics.
