  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim's Update, 11/26/2010

tech that doesn't exist yet.

Looooooooooots of grey area between "doesn't exist" and "ready to release."

...DSLR's don't shoot acceptable HD video, ...even compared to something like a Sony EX1 or a Canon XF300 small chip camera

Sure, in absolute terms, the video coming out of an XF305 will be better than the video coming out of a 7D. But I'm not sold on it being FIVE TIMES (the price difference) better.

I think Canon/Sony/et al charge a MASSIVE premium just for putting the electronics in a video-camera-shaped body.

I own a $550 NEX-5 and I'm seriously considering renting the $2000 NEX-VG10 just to confirm this theory.

If I had the money I'd do the same thing with a 2/3" Scarlet and an Alexa, but that's a different thread...

I think it's all based on what you need, I have a project I'm planning to get a 2/3rds specifically for as it is using photography as still animation, I don't really want heavy depth of field, hell, even a fixed would work. I'm looking forward to seeing whatever comes out.
