Jim's Update, 11/26/2010

The truth hurts Terry.:ciappa:

I wonder if the response is old and tattered or RED's delays are old and tattered? or Both?

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Terry!

The point is simply that we know it isn't for sale yet. You are not adding anything to the conversation with this sort of "nah-nah-nah" response. Implicit in the discussion is the fact that it is well specified, it is well into development, and it will be here; independent of what you or I think or wish. We are talking about a camera that does EXIST, even if it isn't yet for sale, so on that count you are DEAD WRONG.

And, yes, I wish it were for sale. But perhaps, unlike you, I look forward to the day - in the not too distant future - that it is, so I can buy one. And so that you can turn your pessimism to something else - hopefully far from here. :ciappa: :001_tt2:

Regardless of this the Scarlet was always marketed at the mass of DSLR type filmmakers and their budgets, all here loved to talk about it as the 'DSLR killer'. This mass of people aren't going to get excited about 2/3's not when every other company is pushing 35mm size including RED.

And a 'fixed' camera? A real buzz kill when there is more talk of lenses and mounts then there has ever been. Given all the choices out there in the next few months people are really going to choose a fixed 2/3 camera?

This concept will be reassessed.

I guess, as of yesterday, Jim hadn't read the memo.

Scarlet 8X Fixed is nearly done. I like it. So does everyone here.

Jim

Damn, not everyone, but there sure is a bunch of ungrateful people here....

I for one am grateful that thanks to RED I didn't have to plunk hundreds of thousands of dollars on a spirit...

Just for that I am grateful and willing to wait, and even endure some price increases. Sometimes I wish Red would under-promise and over-deliver (I believe they are doing it right now, but only hindsight will prove me right) that way all the naysayers wouldn't have much to complain about.

Jim & team, we had a core business which was film transfer, when we saw the red (and understood what it stood for), we embraced it and made it part of our specialty, even though we knew full well it would kill our film x-fer business. Guess what? we stuck with RED and it has been AWESOME for us, both from a business POV and from the Fun side of POST. Keep up the great work, and PLEASE keep rocking the boat, this makes everyone keep on their toes (or fall of the boat!) :-)

Above all, keep having fun doing what you love, and this goes to all of you out there!

Happy shooting (or posting in our case).

'Nearly' in the RED world maybe a tad different then what we are used too. Enjoy your smugness Terry and let us know when you have one.

Don't feed the trolls Terry. :emote_hippie::emote_hippie:

Ash, reading all of your posts so far on this forum, one has to wonder what you're even doing here? They are overwhelmingly negative and troll-like. So, why do you bother?

Scarlet Fixed will be a huge seller.

ENG, Documentaries, crash cams, tv productions, 3D, even full features.

Once the dust settles... i'm sure alot of people will a) Realise that it can achieve a decent shallow DOF and b) Image quality will be so high that ultra shallow DOF will be an after thought.

We are talking about a camera that does EXIST.

Really?
I haven't seen any single HDRx™™™ footage so far, which could hold buyers.
I haven't seen any single general footage (except for that gecko clip).
I haven't seen any "sell-ready-prototypes".
We all have seen... NOTHING!

And, yes, I wish it were for sale.
We all do, dude.

But perhaps, unlike you, I look forward to the day - in the not too distant future - that it is, so I can buy one.
If you survive the delay.. maybe you could. But then the cam will be out of any
standards. Look, what is going on in all other companies.

And so that you can turn your pessimism to something else - hopefully far from here. :ciappa: :001_tt2:

You should stop your provoking attidude. It sux, dude.

You're going to look (and feel) very foolish not too long from now.

Sure, sure. Have a difference of opinion around here and be dismissed with that label. There's really no need for you to be threatened by my thoughts.

And FYI my previous post was a positive one about the new Epic.

I don't think there's anything wrong with expressing positive or negative comments. Although I get the impression that many here will champion everything thinking they will get first dibs on a camera as reward.

Or they support the ideals laid out by this company and agree with the direction they are trying to push the industry which is why they are on a forum dedicated to the company and its products.

For those that are on this forum to follow the progress RED as a company is making and to follow the development of their products, repeating complaints about things that have already been covered in multitudes of threads and posts get rather tedious.

Some didn't support all the directions of the company and respectfully voiced opinions and as a result Scarlet 35 became Epic-S, there are probably other examples. I thought this was why people loved RED because they were different than other camera companies because they did listen.

Tedious is listening to a bunch of sheep agree on everything, continuously bashing other tech with tech that doesn't exist yet.

It does exist, Epics are shooting projects now and factory prototypes have been for months as development proceeded, there have been short clips from the new cameras posted, including HDRx™™™. Ted has been walking the major industry shows since June demoing a working Epic prototype. Red 1-MX is the same sensor and imaging technology with less processing power and has been in the market for almost a year now with many projects underway. Perhaps you are just not paying attention?

There is a distinctly clear dividing line on many levels between a Red digital cinema raw camera and anybody's HD video camera at any price. So far the rest of the market is still stuck in HD video world.

Threatened? lol.. Hardly.

First and only positive.

I don't think there's anything wrong with expressing positive or negative comments.

If you're so negative towards the whole thing, why post at all. That was my original question.

Although I get the impression that many here will champion everything thinking they will get first dibs on a camera as reward.

Good grief. You really have some strange ideas.

Please David, obviously I am talking about Scarlet and the last two years of DSLR bashing.

That's where you're wrong. It does exist. Remember the quicktime posted of the "little dog shooting the big dog"? The Scarlet shooting the Epic? Guess you don't.

If you don't want to be one of the "sheep" as you put it... just go away. Easy for you, easy for everyone else not to have trawl through your (clearly) anti-RED sentiment.

I'm here because this company and it's products excite me in a way very few have. What are you here for?

2/3" Scarlet? It is still the same technology.
As far as I'm concerned DSLR's don't shoot acceptable HD video, the image quality is not so great overall under most conditions and they have very limited practical capabilities for motion, even compared to something like a Sony EX1 or a Canon XF300 small chip camera. Shallow DOF is not worth the compromises or the headaches.
