  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim, the vast majority of us RED owners are ecstactic about the upgrade offers

Ronx.. if you post an inline 4k image, it screws up people's browsers. Not cool.
This sort of thing is beginning to totally piss me off on this forum and many others. Because one thoughtless person insists on posting a six foot wide image, everybody else's posts come out as one single line of text six feet long!

Apart from that, not everybody has unlimited bandwidth. Huge images can take forever to load, and blow out people's download allocation in no time.

So don't just post gigantic images willy-nilly, use the link icon

to direct users to the site where the files are stored, if they want to access them!

There's any number of websites that will store your files for free.
They can be downloaded by anybody you give the correct link address to. Some give you up to 5GB storage per account with up to 1GB files upload size.
There's no catch.
When you direct somebody to the storage site, the files available for download are clearly listed in a box surrounded by ads that support the service.
Most of them require an email address to register, but you can always set up a free hotmail address if you're worried about spam.
This site http://www.smashingdownloads.com/2008/10/15/28free-file-storage-hosting-websites-something-you-need-to-bookmark/ lists 28 services, but there are countless others.

If you absolutely HAVE to post an image why not just make a much smaller "thumbnail" to show here, as well as link to the full-size file on the storage site.

And if you happen to have your own web site, a little bit of professionalism like this goes a long way to impressing your potential clients.

I am sorry you are having problems but all three of my REDs perform flawlessly most of the time.

(Emphasis mine)

Most of the time is ok with you? Wow, I wish our clients felt the same way! I should add though that I've only had our camera do a mysterious shut down one time, but it wasn't rolling. It took three attempts at booting to get it back, and no the battery wasn't dead and we were on release Build 16.3.2.5. Luckily that wasn't a disastrous situation, but none of my other cameras have ever done that. Overall we're very happy with our Red.

Also, another vote for real names here. We should have done this from the beginning.

I have never had any camera work flawlessly 100% the time. Obviously I want our REDs to come as close to perfect as possible but problems have become farther and fewer between with every firmware update so I am satisfied that the few issues left are being worked on. Our clients have been very satisfied because we were able to solve any problems that came up and they got incredible footage at good price.

by the way.. i was a little "worried", but i see my options now.. and im ok with upgrading.
i wont bitch and moan. im just gunna try and rent my shit out as much as possible over the next few months to pay it off

Ronx I hope your camera issues get solved soon, I've had my camera since May and it's worked almost flawlessly, even post production. And I support real names too. This is a very diverse thread.

Obendega and Gibby have multiple camera's and come from a background of high end production. They are probably very used to replacing expensive equipment. Those owners who feel that Red broke their promise probably took a bigger risk when buying their Red One. I am one of those who risked a lot on my purchase, but am VERY excited about the new line up and the trade in options Red has offered us.

I am at the far opposite end of the spectrum from guys like Obendega and Gibby. I went from a DVX100a to a Red ONE. It cost me more than both of my cars and the down payment on my house combined. I risked a lot when I bought that camera, and I don't regret it for a second, and I think the trade in options are incredibly generous.

I've had the camera for 6 months, and it's almost paid for itself. The best part is, last year at this time I was only making money shooting corporate video's and fundraising video's. Since I got my Red ONE I have been hired to shoot 2 music video's, and a short film (as well as all of the corporate stuff). In a year from now, if my company has $10,500 of profits, I can upgrade to an Epic!! If my company hasn't profited that much, I should probably work harder and build my client base before I need the Best camera in the world (a Red Epic) and just struggle with a crummy old Red One (only 2nd best). I didn't know what to expect when upgrades came around, but $10,500 does not seem unreasonable to me. So if $10,500 got my current Red ONE new guts, or gets me a whole new camera, it's still an upgrade.

I've written letters to Panasonic and Apple after buying equipment that was replaced on the market a few weeks after I bought it, and I think the options Red is offering are extremely generous.

I think Red is staying very loyal to their customers, and I think it's amazing. Thank you Red, I hope to one day take advantage of your incredible upgrade offer.

Justin G. Dyck (real name, not that I would even show up on google)

P.S. this post looks kinda like I'm a fanboy, so everybody should just ignore my opinion. I only bought the camera so Jarred would think I'm cool.

yeah yeah yeah. sorry, the place was empty when I arrived, needed filling.
There's me worrying about stuff when you have real problems. 200k is 200k. most people post images close to the limit, if not exactly that, takes no longer to download them. As for stretched lines, sssooorrrrryyy. I don't deserve to eat tomorrow!
Anyway, what do you think about the image problem? Oh thats right, Jarred took it down almost immediately I posted them, so your problem is? Oh, you're a teacher with an unfortunately patronising style of communicating, very good sir

Plasmatic, your post has come long after my images were removed, did you even experience them?

I've never seen anything at all like the shutdown we had, on any camera. Total ghost in the machine PC-style issue. If it hadn't been during down time we wouldn't have made our day, which could have cost nearly as much as buying a new camera body. The scary thing is that we didn't actually DO anything to fix it except keep trying(after checking all cable connections and ruling out other obvious things). It would have made me feel better if I could point to something specific, even if it was user error.

Fantastic !

So who do we talk to for name change? I'm ready to come out and reveal my identity :) No autographs, please...

Can I still keep my slogan?

Send me a PM if you want your name changed...

RED,

made me think - of course some people freaked out when you did not include the Red1 at all in your future line up. just Scarlet and Epic. Might have saved alot of trouble just including red1 in the pictures and specs as an equal:)

if you had showed this comparison right away, I bet you could have avoide some panicking customers:)

still what a fantastic lineup.

The future is here!!!

I can't thank you enough guys for making such brilliant products.

Emmanuel

We scrambled pretty hard to make the 13th... we could have been more clear. Hope we have caught up now.
