Hi all,

just checking in for those of you who may be concerned, I'm all ok here in Tokyo after the quake that hit us today. No real damage where I am but up north in the Sendai/Miyagi region they had a major tsunami following the quake that caused a massive amount of damage and people have died.

Few aftershocks still happening as I write this.

When it was at its peak I headed outside. Grabbed my 5D camera bag on the way out.... cameraman instinct I guess!

This is my neighbour's house, I watched the tiles crumble and fall:

For live coverage of the events in Sendai/Miyagi, al Jazeera is showing their live feed here:

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul

Hope you and your friends are ok Paul, watch out for the aftershocks and stay away from the coastline, I'm sure you don;t have to be told that tho.

I'm a good ways inland so tsunamis aren't a worry where I am. Unfortunately they ARE along the east coast, which has been hit very hard.

I never knew this, but Japanese schoolchildren get these silver seat cushion/protective hats to don in the event of an earthquake:

What a good, simple idea to avoid a lot of smaller items causing unnecessary head injuries!

Cheers,

Paul

The footage they are showing is insane! Actually watching the waves before they hit the shore. Then to see the water miles inland washing away buildings, farms and carrying large fishing vessels with it over farm land!

Hope everyone is OK, but that will not come true.

Hoping the best for Japan and it's people. The Tsunami footage coming in is just unreal in some areas.

As of my typing this, it seems a warning just went out of another imminent strong quake or aftershock.

I have family in Hawaii, tsunami warnings and evacuation in progress there.

"The most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in at least 100 years..." >>> LINK >>>

Local emergency calls and warnings issued across the Pacific about a possible more earthquakes and tsunamis are coming up this year!!!!

I give my condolences and wish a fast recovery to japan. Some of that footage was unreal and very shocking. As for Hawaii and California good luck guys try and get to higher ground theyre saying 5:00 AM pacific time for Hawaii and 9:00 AM for California. Try to be safe and get out of harms way.
