  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What a disaster...best wishes and high hopes for any involved.

Is there a relief fund set up yet?
 
The first one was massive and possible the longest one on record - it went on way over 3 minutes - you can't imagine how long that feels... Since then we had 17 aftershocks over M6 and close to 100 over M5...:

Our kitchen is a mess, but otherwise all good. Costco next door (5 min) has a collapsed parking with some people trapped inside...

The damage up north is unimaginable. Many cities are on fire and/or washed out. Besides of tsunami there has been landslides, avalanches and one dam collapsed, flooding the nearby villages. It will not be until the sun comes up to get a glimpse of the carnage...

The Daily Mail (UK) has some pretty sobering images.
I guess the only comment I can make is that even if you're down and out and living in a run-down trailer in Nowhereville Nebraska, you're still currently better off than most of those poor people....
 
We had a tiny quake here in Ottawa last year - the first quake I'd been in that I'd actually really felt, and that was scary enough. I don't think it even begins to give me an appreciation of what this one must have felt like. My thoughts and best wishes go out to all those that have been effected by this disaster.

its tough finding the real videos on utube amongst all the spam. plz post some links to these vids

i cant believe how powerful an 8.9 must have felt. a magnitude 7 is massive but this is 90x more powerful!
 
What a nightmare! Not only the enormous earthquake and the devastating tsunami.
Now officials admit that they have lost control of five nuclear reactors (two in Fukushima 1 and three in Fukushima 2 power plant).
If they do not find a way to cool them down, a meltdown is unavoidable.
 
They have just reported explosion at one of the reactors and local TV is showing white cloud and smoke rising up...
Aftershock count 150+ of M5 or larger, out of which 24 M6+, one at M7.1
Everyone is really worried that this could release the "big one" long overdue in Tokyo, which sit at the junction of four tectonic plates (the current tremors are between two of these, but further north)...

I hope the failing reactors are not located in populated areas or the consequences are too much to think about.

I just read this: "(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis."

Island of Japan moved 8 feet? Good god! My thoughts are with all those affected by this.
