Matt, I have no idea. There are just so many variables. For example my camera was still under warranty, does that allow skipping some level of testing? and it is an M with faster processing does that mean it tests out faster? And I did pay a lot more for the M and have a pretty early number does that matter? Did my bomb squad rep have fewer calls to make Friday. (I mentioned I got called quite late in the day). I already had a running dialog because of the media trade in situation, so the money thing is already buttoned up for me, and remember my camera hasn't actually shipped yet.
We are right back to I have no idea. As long as RED turns the camera's around close to targeted turn around time, they've done their job and done well by us.
The difference between arrival at Red sometime on Friday, and early Monday morning is negligible, not enough that I would be worried.
I wouldn't imagine that warranty would have anything to do with the tests as they would still need to make sure everything works perfectly. Actually, the M for Epic-M only means, "machined" Your Epic body was machined while my Epic-X was casted. There was no difference in processing power. Not even the CF Epics had any more power, they were just lighter.
Well, if they are simply put in a line when they come in, Friday vs next Monday should make a difference. However, I am guessing we will never know why the jump in line happened.
My bomb rep did call me this morning and we took care of payment, but it's still supposed to be 3-5 days before it ships. Plus the 24-48 hours for the credit to hit, so not sure if my media will get here before the weekend, but we'll see.
I wish it were Christmas, but it's business and can cost me a lot of money in having to rent an Epic or Media for shoots I have next week.
