  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

January 2016 update

As a reference. I got my upgrade notice a week ago for an Epic X to Weapon CF that had a time stamp of early May. They are definitely near the end of the line on the CF-W cameras.

Unfortunately we won't hit my anticipated date of Feb. 5th to begin the MG upgrades.

The first test production run for the Magnesium didn't go exactly as we imagined ...

It went better.

Magnesium Love begins tomorrow.

First sadness, then surprise, then joy... You have to stop stop writing posts with a dramatic structure. :tongue_smilie:

I haven't received my notice yet.

paid Woven CF deposit, and 8K deposit during NAB window in 2015, feels like... Almost a year ago...

feeling sad face.

why are the magnesium upgrades starting if I haven't received my notice from my bomb squad rep Clark.

I'm usually feeling super stoked.

Not feeling the stoke today.

What happened ?

You definitely should of.. check your junk folder maybe? We are way way way past the NAB window. Contact your bomb squad rep and he will sort you out first thing in the morning... before the MGs begin :)

thanks jarred, kinda what I thought , I just checked in with Clark last week because I was feeling weird about it.

I'm sure you guys will make it right like you always do.

Thanks!

Thanks Dan, not sure what happened there. Have no fear... you of course still have priority. We will still be doing Woven upgrades alongside the MG upgrades for all the stragglers out there. If you can get your camera off tomorrow to Irvine your camera upgrade should be back to you next week.

RED team, killing it! Hopefully this momentum continues and S-W get some early love!

I'm in the same situation and just yesterday got an mail, that I will get my CF Weapon (for which I paid the 8K upgrade) maybe at the end of next week...maybe later.
I ordered on the 2nd NAB day. Really hope I'll get the 8K upgrade before 2017.

Yes to be clear, all Woven upgrades are not physically complete, but the last batch of Woven upgrade customers have now been notified minus looks like a few that will be sorted in the morning.

It is now up to you guys when you send your camera in after we notify you, and we understand that some of you have cameras that are working and can't send it in immediately, But we are not going to stop the ship waiting for that before we continue down the line.. as I am sure you can understand.

Any info about the base I/O V-Lock Expander? Beginning of march? End of March?

All depends on processing time of upgrade order and accessories order. And, in turn, processing time to have credit applied to your account once your WEAPON has been invoiced. I think most people are seeing the credit within a week of brain being invoiced.

Hey Brent, as the MG Upgrades start out, I am still confused why the credit is not applied when we pay in full for the upgrade? Why is it waiting to be applied until the camera is totally done being upgraded and shipped out when the upgrade process take 5-7 days supposedly? Seems like even if it was credited when the camera arrives, it would be better than when it ships out.

I am sending in old redmags for the trade mag program and if I have to wait an extra week just so I can use it towards the new minimags, I could technically be without a usable camera for 3 weeks or more ( 1 - 1 1/2 weeks for camera upgrade & 1-2 weeks for media after shipping) It wouldn't be an issue if there were other things I needed to buy that weren't crucial for using the camera when it arrives. However, there's nothing else I need in the foreseeable future, so it seems like a bad business for me to go ahead and spend $5000 on media and readers now, only to get a $5000 credit a week later that will sit there for who knows how long. But at the same time, it's bad business for me to have a camera sitting there unusable because I have no media (and no easy place to rent minimags locally.)

Please don't take this as yelling at you all, but truly as constructive criticism to help make you all a better company for customers. It just seems like RED can only juggle one ball in the air at a time when it comes to this whole process. My idea of a efficient process would be, as we are doing the send in/drop off process for the MG Weapon (emails for payment, etc), be able to place an order for anything else we need. We could go ahead and pay the extra money for whatever we order that would be over the $5k. At the latest, when the brain & trade in media arrives, the credit is applied (you have all our money and the camera, so obviously the upgrade is happening and we are at the point of no return) During the 5-7 upgrade days, the accessories order is processed and either ships out with the brain or separately before the brain in ready. This to me seems very logical and the most efficient way to be able to make sure customers are without a working camera for the shortest amount of time. Am I missing something that makes it difficult for the process not to be this way?

I hope you can see where I am coming from with this.

That's wonderful Jared! I have two questions:
A) What will become of the prices of current Epic and Scarlet Dragons? I see they are currently the same price and looking at the specs of the Scarlet-W which are great, it is hard to justify the purchase of those models now at that price.

B) Will there be an upgrade path from Scarlet-W to Weapon Magnesium and if so, how far down the line do you anticipate that to be?

Thank you in advance!

I have a feeling they will begin to phase out the DSMC bodies. When i asked this question at the RED store in NYC they informed me they had people buying dragons everyday anyhow.. I think the price will remain until they don't make them anymore (used market is full of great deals however)

I believe the Scarlet-W is set to be on a path to Weapon MG or CF, I assume you could make that order the day you get a scarlet-w, but that seems pretty silly. I have plans to upgrade my current dragon to weapon down the line.
