  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

January 2016 update

I saw that Jarred mentioned the RAVEN sensors being on track. Which part of March are we talking about? Sorry for the ignorance, I'm new to the forum and I have just put my deposit down on the RAVEN this afternoon. I know its unlikely I'll receive it on the first or second batch, but I suppose that completely relies on the size of the batches and the number of orders ahead of me. Any insight would be awesome!

I'm relatively new to the forums as well, and like you I only recently placed my RAVEN order. I've read almost every post on the topic and it pretty much boils down to this: Hope for March, but it could be 1, 2, 3+ months after. Only RED knows the real queue.

However, there are some positive things I've come across such as senior members here stating that because there is no upgrade path before it (and other factors), the units should be able to be pushed out at a quick pace. Additionally, we can thank the Scarlet-W release to cause some RAVEN pre-orderers to jump ship for it instead.

Yeah, well there is no camera that will 'downgrade' to the smaller sensor. Though my worry is sensor production. How fast they can make them and put them in the RAVEN bodies. I've also heard a lot of RAVEN orders being swapped over to the W for either the extra resolution or just the fact that they ship a month earlier. Hoping RAVEN ships early March and the queue is short enough to get them up and going before NAB. Here's to hoping.

Lame question, but I'd like to know just so I can keep my ducks in a row financially. For I/O Raven packages, are you all thinking early March for initial shipments, or possibly mid to late March? I pre-ordered the night Raven was announced. Any info is appreciated, can't believe we're a month out! Thanks again.

March 17th is when the Raven spreads its wings.

Let's meetup at Swallow's in San Juan, for a Raven(ous) celebration of St. Patty's Day as well...

Thank you very much

Any date for Scarlet-W packages Mr. Land? :)

Mr. Land,

This is fantastic news. Quick question though, not sure if you can answer it on here or not but around how many Ravens are expected to ship at max production? Trying to get a rough idea on when I should expect my order to be allocated. I ordered a few days ago so I'm not expecting mid-March, but I am hoping to receive it before NAB.

Thanks!

Jarred, any idea when current Weapon owners can expect the "coming soon" accessories from the store. I understand there were a couple of the items that were given expanded capabilities, D-tap, SDI and maybe some others. Still, can you give us a month (at least) when those newly fashioned accs will ship?

Screens , I really would love to know when the 2 new screens will ship. As of now I shoot blindfolded... works, but would be easier with a screen :)

Welcome, Andy......love your avatar......jerry!

I hope it's a mistake or, if not, that there would be an announcement as it's not just a detail. That would be weird. It can do 4.5KWS 120fps 13:1 which is 127MB/s on a Dragon (reading the recording time calculator on Red website) and, now, 5K 24fps 5:1 which is 102MB/s, going 4:1 would give 127MB/s. It's supposed to be a 140MB/s camera. Why is it suddenly limited? The 4:1 decided me on that camera for VFX and green screen work. And shooting 5k Raw + prores. Now it seems I can't even stay @5:1 shooting prores in parallel.

I'm just speculating here, so forgive me if I'm incorrect.

The Red Tools page states the following: "Results represent averages over the course of a typical recording, and may vary depending on subject matter or shooting duration."

My understanding is that the 140MB/s speed is the maximum, while the tools page lists the average. After you account for spikes in data rate (on scenes with heavy detail), then you end up with a maximum average write speed of around 126-128MB/s. Maybe after further testing, they realized they were pushing it too close (maybe dropped a few frames) and decided it was prudent to dial the max average data rate back a bit.

Either way it's unfortunate and I'm certainly disappointed, but I expect that Red did this with just cause.

Well that's why I was indicating that it can still do 127MB/s with some speeds and it can't do 127MB/s with others now.

I see what you're saying. The two ratios you listed would each be 127MB/s, while only one has been changed. Perhaps there is a half MB difference between the two, and that was the breaking point?

Either way, I sure hope you're right in that it's simply an error.
