I apologise as I know a lot of similar threads have been opened like this lately, but I'm letting the initial excitement get the better of me.

So after a little bit of a longer wait than expected (holidays x everyone rushing for the dec 1st deadline) she has arrived!
Red Epic Dragon with Low light OLPF.

Initially I didn't think I would feel as excited as I do, as essentially its my old camera, but even just opening the box it felt like a brand new camera.

After booting it up and running a black shade - which might I add felt like it took half the time of my usual black shades, my first thoughts were that overall it felt much more responsive and a lot quicker.

Then after just a few minutes or shooting around the house - I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.
The image is beautiful, the highlights have really impressed me. and my initial worries of noise have been taken away - I agree in some parts of the image there dis a little more noise but I would argue that dragon noise is a lot more pleasing than MX noise.

I used to set my Fans at 51 adaptive on the MX do I want this thing to run a little hotter?
Anything else I should make sure I don't forget with the differences of the sensors? Not trying to start the Native ISO discussion again haha

I cannot wait to get out and shoot with this thing.

Thank you to the red team and everyone involved in developing such a fantastic camera.

So good to see these threads. I get to relive those awesome initial Dragon feelings.

Enjoy!

I think you want your camera to run a little hotter than 51 no matter what model. The "default" on the Adaptive Quiet mode is 65 and I leave it there for my Scarlet. IIRC, running a bit hotter tends to yield a cleaner image, too.

congratulations and thanks for sharing!

just got my scarlet dragon in last week and now in my mailbox a notice that my epic dragon is on her way to UK for delivery to holland after upgrade.. Thrilled. loved the first Scarlet images we shot this weekend, hope to post the result here in a couple of weeks. agreed on the lovely picture and agreed on the 'looks like a little bit more noise but more pleasing noise'. great out of the box color rendering and skintones, handles mixed light lovely. to be honest noise might also be my own fault, should have paid maybe a little more attention. will have to do some more testing. since she is a whole new beast; it might take me some time to get used setting up light for the results i want. This also was with skintone OLPF.. still waiting for lowlight ones to see what that will do (=

also agree on the big thanks to RED and your dog is cute (=

best,
Joost

Nice one Jordan. It's a special time when you fire up those dragon images for the first time for sure. It's not a fanboy thing, it's an image thing. Those colours & that DR (and those massive 6K files lol!).

Wise decision going for the LLO OLPF. Mine arrived to UK a week before you and got to shoot on it last weekend. I'm on the highlight OLPF & can't wait for the LLO to arrive. If you think there's a little more noise with the LLO than MX then you should try the highlight one!

The swappable system is great though. My dragon is off filming a snowboarding festival next week where the highlight OLPF is going to be perfect (all filmed during the day).

Horses for courses. Push the (extra) DR where you want it/ are needing it. I like that.

If you want to have a play / side by side OLPF test in London, give me a shout. I've a bit of time 16th Feb onwards.

Congrats and nice dog.

Thanks guys - going to be shooting some motorbikes next week so that will be a fun one to start her out on.

Craig definitely be interested to see the difference as I have been planning on getting the Highlight OLPF for the kit bag as an option for when I'm doing lots of highlights and skin tones.
And those huge 6K files you talk of... so nice.

Also if you need a dragon while yours is out to play let me know - I'm in Bow so I'm not far from you at all :)

Will update with any more things I find, for the meantime it seems Red forgot to re attach my bottom plate so hopefully that will turn up at Red Europe or Irvine in the morning!

Deffo Jordan- London represents! Definitely up for some London shooting, there's a lack of London imagery on this forum. After mid feb is good for me.

On another note, any idea if there's a plate solution for the new fans? Mine doesn't fit any longer. I had to build a frankenrig on the weekend to get it on my shoulder.

Exciting times.

Craig

I got my DRAGON today as well!!! Congrats!!! I had the same tingly feeling when I turned my brain on for the first time!!!
