We are getting ready to launch my film "TimeScapes" in a couple of days, and it occurred to me that this film might in fact be the first 4K film ever sold to the public directly? is this correct? Obviously there are 4K films like "Dragon Tattoo" that have played in theaters, but as far as I know, there has never been a 4K film sold to the public as a 4K file or disc? Is that correct?

I am aware of a short film called "Sintel", but this is a short film and is being given away for free. Are there any other 4K films being sold to the public?

We are also offering 2560x1440 downloads. Is this also a first? http://timescapes.org/products/default.aspx

Finally I get to see it.
Very special thanks.

You're the first I have heard of. I'll definitely be buying a "download" of your film. Really looking forward to it.

Have you guys ever heard of 2560x1440p downloads of films?

We are going live Wednesday, hopefully.

Hey if any of you guys know any writers or bloggers who might be interested in this 4K angle, let me know.

I am pretty sure the 4K aspect will be a significant publicity draw. Tech / HTPC / film websites will be all over it. I have never played back a 4K file except Sintel and projects I have worked on. Sure makes a significant difference on a 2560 monitor with a viewing distance of 3 feet (versus 1920).

Yep. If you guys have any specific ideas for film or tech blogs that might be interested in this 4K story, could you post them here?

Tom, what is the deliverable for the downloads? Are you protecting it (hopefully) with some sort of encryption?

AVS Forum, definitely. A million of the biggest image quality buffs all in one place. They have posted a couple of articles on 4K last week, I think. Pretty sure they will be more than willing to put up an article and review. The popular tech sites - Engadget seemed pretty prompt to report on ITU's UHDTV meet; Anand from Anandtech is known to be a HTPC enthusiast and complaining about the lack of 4K content in the foreseeable future a few weeks back in one of his articles. Film blogs - Harry Knowles from AICN from will certainly be excited. Just a few popular ones off the top of my head.

I think RED should give you a beta of their R3D viewing format that will be used on the red rays. Would be nice to play it back in red cine x pro or even just the new r3d player.

Hey Tom, hit up Mitch Aunger over at planet5d.com, he always posts in depth articles on my films (whether I shoot on 5D or Scarlet). Message me if you're interested and I'll happily put you guys in touch.

Tom, definately do a shout out to Mitch at Planet5D, he covers all types of stuff, plus the fact that a lot of the shots are from Canon cameras it's actually the perfect place for something like this.

P.S. - Already placed an order for the Special Edition Blue-Ray...4K next, once I get my new system in place.
