  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

is this a Design flaw in the new DSMC2 Body?

I believe the Wooden Camera Weapon Quick Back should fix that, just without the ability to but on the vmount module

Maybe there is reasons why the V-lock module is not shipping just yet...

One can have hopes right :)

Checked out that Anton bour battery and really dont like them the Sony Vlocks are so much nicer.

I bought a couple of them for keeping a low profile in an underwater housing. I have been using these Sony BP-L75 for a few weeks now. Really nice form factor (same height or lower than camera even on older epic v-mount) and the new lithium cell technology charges twice as fast (on their charger) and supposedly last for 4 to 5 times as many recharges. Because of the new cells its nominal voltage is 12.8 volts which concerned me a bit but ran over an hour with the Scarlet dragon at the red miami store last week (with monitor and EVF) - would have gone a little while longer but the store was closing.

And as someone said earlier, Jarred hinted at a lower profile v mount battery from RED a little while ago.

I got xl volt batteries and I guess I can buy small vlocks but I think its nice to be able to put on a big brick sized battery when wieght is not an issue.

But making this little cheese plate handle, is for me,
more about about getting 19mm top rods (have 4 rods mouting on the milo) and an easy swap between that and differen accessories.

and no matter what battery the space on the top of camera is not much. far less than on epic. and i usualky have monitor mounted on top right where the new connector is. so love the no cable thing and the stop start in the handle is great then that metal block will I hope solve all my mounting needs in one swoop.

I love these small Sony V lock batteries as well. They really fit well.

Our XL batteries are underrated... they really are a great solution but I understand that Vlocks are a bit more flexible if you have other things to power with them.

Good news is there are a ton of options out there... and more to come ;)

Love my XL´s. But please make a larger PAglink styled XL battery that can have a normal XL battery on it´ back so we can piggy back and hot swap. To me the XL´s are simply to small when size and weight does not matter. Then having to swap to Vlock and new charger etc is to much hassle. But if there where hotswapable and more juice in them I could leave the Vlocks behind or with the lights.
Also you need to make a modifaction to the volt travel charger. So we dont need to use the dremel tool to get the XL´s onto them :)

Oh,

Absolutely love the XL's always did and still pretty much do... Only issue is that I can only carry so much, and with my next project been a 300 Days Global shoot adventure... I need a battery solution that it is easy to replace and or add to...

Same issue I am having with recent international projects...

But yeah XL's rock and they have never failed me no matter where I have taken, and I have taken them places... :)

Im leaning towards the cine AB batteries in v-lock as well. Wondering of you need to buy the AB charger also or if I can still use my old v-lock charger.

AB has a 'special chip' that the chargers need to see in the battery to even be able to charge them! Therefore, you MUST have AB chargers! You won't be able to use your other chargers... at least if AB continue to do things the way they have for 25 years...

Good to hear. Are these new solutions both gold mount and v-lock?

Think that is a normal magnet switch in the back of the battery. Have not done so my self but heard people that opened them up and just bypassed that.

I looked up the dimensions of the Anton Bauer cine compared to PAG:

AB Cine, 90Wh: 4.67 x 3.84 x 4.01"
PAG, 96Wh: 5.2 x 3.3 x 2"

The PAG batteries, while being about .5" taller, are half the depth and just over .5" slimmer side-to-side. You could stack two PAGs and have 192Wh in the space of one AB Cine 90Wh. That's crazy to me. So if the Cine batteries sit flush on the Epic, the PAGs maybe stick up a half inch. The PAGs aren't even much more expensive at full price. I'll take the extra .5" on top to use a battery half the size and higher capacity.

Aside from the size of the batteries themselves, another thing that sold me on PAG was the Micro Charger. If you travel a lot, these things are a life saver. It's a wall-wart plug and a little plate you could fit in your pocket. Batteries stack for charging. The only thing to avoid is putting a ton of batteries on one Micro Charger, because it takes a super long time to charge. I have two Micro Chargers and can easily charge my six batteries at once while traveling.

Copy that, thank you.

so much would be solved if RED would just modify the design of the v-lock i/o expander so the connecter is just a half inch lower. there is plenty of time!

its hard to judge how far paq and other batteries will stick up just by height specs, because it also has to do with where their placement is of their connector.
besides the paq, does any other good quality battery have a travel charger capability?

I would love V-lock batteries the size of XL (and perhaps a bit slimmer then XL). Probably asking for the moon if I wanted them to be 90wh.

1) Something small (and light weight) that can be used handheld or on gimbals.
2) Something that is the exact same height of Weapon/Dragon when put on. Should be flushed and levelled.
3) I'd prefer something thin/slim too. Like a "Pancake". - Sony and AB batteries are just too fat.
4) I don't mind switching out batteries but the 20minute red volts is just too short.
5) Be nice with at least 1 P-tap built into the battery.

Keep it small, simple, light weight. Yep. That's the dream.

Will there be a XL plate we could use with a lemo out to power camera and a lemo and p-tap out to power accessories? Having that option will help people going the XL route and still want to rig their camera for gimbals and such where they can't mount the XL module to the camera brain.

Some one would get rich from making a nice Vlock low weight basket to put Lipo batteries in...

I liked the XLs, it's the flexibility of the V-locks for other purposes as well as worldwide availability for rent if needed that swung me in that direction.

Totally agree with that. It's one of the big reasons I have been on the fence with XL's. While they have an awesome form factor (superior to V-Mount in my opinion), there's really no broader use for them like there is V-Mount, since there isn't any P-Tap available, and there's no belt clip mount. So, XL's are camera-centric, V-Mounts are camera and accessory friendly.

That said, the DJI Ronin now has a power tap option, allowing the camera to be powered directly from the Ronin battery. That solves one of the bigger issues I had with the XL's - they previously HAD to be mounted on the camera when on the Ronin. Or, I had to invest in a separate V-Mount system just to power the camera via tether.

But it would still be cool to have more flexibility with the XL's... put a P-Tap on it, and you've got it dialed in.

Do you have a photo of your rig with the battery installed? Would love to see how it sits on there.
