  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is RED undead gone (Dragon recovery)

Thx. I'm in China. Dropbox = nowork

But I have the Rdcine-x manual and no mention of redundead in it.

Yup.

Know I hafta run it from the terminal

THX

Hope I have not violated the SLA by posting this. :) LOL

RUNNING REDUNDEAD

  1. Choose a location on your computer to save the recovered files to.
IMPORTANT: Available memory must be the same size or larger than the RED Drive or REDCompact Flash Card that is being recovered. In this example we will be using a desktop folderlabeled 'REDundead'.
NOTE: If using an external drive, create a folder for the recovered files to be saved to.
  2. Connect the RED media that you want to recover (REDFLASH, RED-DRIVE, or RED-RAM) to thecomputer.
  3. In the Terminal window, type "diskutil list"and press ENTER.
• The RED media will appear and should benumbered as 'disk1', 'disk2', or 'disk3' etc..In this example, RED media(FDisk_partition_scheme, Windows_FAT_32)comes up as 'disk3'.

4. To properly run REDundead, the following information will need to be typed in the terminal window;'redundead' followed by the source '/dev/rdisk3' (for this example) followed by the destination for therecovered files '/Users/admin/Desktop/REDundead/ '.
IMPORTANT: All media, including RED, is labeled as 'disk3' or similar, however it is requiredthat you type an "r" in front of the source line - i.e. ”rdisk3” not “disk3” or the program will notrun correctly.
• Based in the example we are using, the correct path will be entered as: redundead/dev/rdisk3 /Users/admin/Desktop/REDundead/
IMPORTANT: Note the spaces after “redundead” and “rdisk3” – these are required for the pro-gram to run correctly.
  1. Double-check the path in the previous step andpress ENTER to run REDundead.
  2. The recovered files being created will be displayed inthe terminal window.
NOTE: To stop the recovery, press CONTROL+Z.The files recovered completely will be OK, how-ever the file currently processing will be cut-offwherever the processing was stopped.
  3. When REDundead has finished, DONE! will be displayed in the terminal window.

    8. Verify your files were created in the destination folder.
    • If the folder is empty, perform the procedure again and verify the path in STEP 7 is enteredcorrectly for you specific drive number and destination folder.
    TIPS/HINTS
    • As an alternative to opening Terminal to view the disk number, open Disk Utility and select 'Info' onthe drive to view its disk number.
    • You can drag and drop the 'REDfiles' folder into Terminal from your finder, instead of manuallyentering the destination path '/Users/admin/Desktop/REDundead/' in the Terminal window. The pathwill automatically be generated.
    • It is a recommended to unmount the drive from Disk Utility before removing to prevent corruption ofthe drive and/or files.

Got the mail.

Cannot make the path to ext disk work, but at least now I know I can get there and just leave the SSD untouched for now...

THX!

make sure you use the rdisk command the "r" in front of the disk is important.

just be extra careful with spaces, etc.

It's good to have a textedit document open, then modify copy paste into the terminal

I get this:
-bash: redundead/dev/rdisk3: No such file or directory

But it is disk 3 that is the source disk,
when I use the rDisk command

This is what I attempt to do:

redundead/dev/rdisk3/ Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

Latest command:
redundead/dev/rdisk3 /Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

But the problem seems to be it doesn't want rdisk3

SO I don't get to the path for the ext disk

The int SSD on the laptop doesn't have space enough...

try the volume name.

redundead/dev/rdisk3/ Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

redundead/VOLUME NAME HERE/ Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

or

redundead/dev/VOLUME NAME HERE/ Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

redundead/dev/rM010_1027P7/ Volumes/Kina2014_01/M009_recovered

try with these spaces. Spaces matter.

I've been there.

try this. Run it with sudo, like so.

sudo redundead /dev/rdiskX /path/to/output

Gunleik, always a good idea to fire redundead for halloween :-)

You really need to make sure you have a space after redundead before the /dev
Looks like it is missing in your commands pasted above

download redundead latest version from here :

RED support tip for making sure the destination path is correct by using drag and drop :

Last time I tried to undead a REDmag it I was able to recover files on 10.7 but not on newer OS, but might have been a human error (needs to add sudo for it to work on 10.8+)
