  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is now a good time to buy the Scarlet?

I don't think any upcoming release wil change "core" part for the EPIC/SCARLET camera family. But I DO expect something interesting around LENSES and accessories. Wish them to re-think v-mount battery family to make it more up to date and flexible - still believe it is the best powering solution. AND to buy or not to buy? GO get it now unless it too late (wish you good luck to stay no more than 2 months in line - but I'm not sure :))) Don't think any "dragon" update will be on market this year. I d rather wish RED TEAM to spend more time for R&D and figure out noiseless 3200 native ISO sensor with 16 stops dynamic range (Yes, I am that crazy:)

Oh my god... I'd kill my self if i had to work with a 3200 ISO sensor.... the camera would be nose heavy from all the ND.....

I'm wondering if anyone can give me an estimate of how long it would take to get a Scarlet from order to delivery? I'm in Brooklyn, NY.

You are relating digital camera ISO to film ISO, they are not equivalent.
In Digital, 3200 ISO means that you can get a clean usable picture at that type of low light. You can still shoot bright stuff as well.
In the old film analogy, with film speed at ISO 3200, yes, you would have a nose heavy camera from all the ND.

example: new DSLRs can shoot ISO 128,000 .... they don't stack ND filters either.

The OP seemed to infer that the base sensitivity would be 3200.

If the Dragon was base 3200, it would prove more inconvenient than a benefit.
