  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is it possible to record the in-camera generated test/calibration images?

Hi.

I am to run a couple of new codec/post-workflow tests the next few days and suddenly got the idea that the "best" codec-test material would be the in-cam generated clibration-charts.

BUT my cam is out right now. And I haven't tried.

Can someone confirm whether it is possible to record these signals or not when one turns the generator on.

If it's NOT possible, it would be great to have this option in a future build, to calibrate an image workflow from end to end.

Cheers!

It is not possible to record any test image from the RED ONE

remember it is a RAW recording camera so it only records sensor bayered data along with some metadatas

There is no way it could record a RAW test signal, those signals are here only to adjust and verify your monitoring paths

you can always light a real world chart and record that, it may even make a better test... :-)

Gunleik,

I'm not sure that you are able to 100% calibrate the codec (!???) or sensor yourself.

It's already done by RED.

But you can calibrate your preview monitors and work with other important image parameters...

The images that I'm getting right now with B30 are the most accurate I've ever got especially if you can follow the workflow I described here>>>

Thanks.

I am not interested in calibrating the cam or the codec -:)
I guess RED is pretty good at that. And I have used the signal to calibrate external equipment. It's great.

BUT

If one could record the dummy cam-generated charts, it would be a pretty cool image to run through different workflows for codec tests (not calibration), as these images does not contain all the variables of properly recorded images.

No light variables. No lens sharpness variables. No focus or color temperature variables. A perfectly repeatable image for all RED users to use for tests and how the image data holds up when run through different apps and workflows.

It would basically be a cool way to test the codec itself.
(and not the sensor/camera)

AND it would be totally repeatable.

Anyhow.

Think it would be cool.
I'd love the option.
Understand the difficulty. Just a hunch...

And:
No sweat.

Many other ways to do this.
