Excerpts:

The iPhone 4 had, by a healthy margin, the best exposure and color scores of the entire bunch, beating out even the point-and-shoot cameras. It did run into trouble in the sharpness and distortion categories, performing much lower than the pocket cameras and similarly to the Droid.

For video quality, iPhone 4 topped all other smartphones, as well as the point-and-shoot camera, losing out only to the dedicated Flip Video camera.
While its image quality was impressive, it was the iPhone 4's video capabilities that really stole the show in our lab tests. Of the eight devices we rated for video, only the Flip Video M2120 scored higher. The Flip, which also records 720p, 30fps video, had just slightly better video quality than the iPhone 4, even in low-light.

p.s. When is House going to shoot an episode on this?

Ha! You beat me to it!! :cornut: Looks like pretty good quality though. It makes me laugh how the "sample video" on Apple's page is the phone doing a damn DOLLY shot of the Golden Gate bridge. I'm very impressed with the pictures it takes though...

Dang this is horrible timing I just directed my first feature, shot on the RED One (with a few "home video" segments shot on the 5D), but if we had just waited and pushed production back a month we could have shot the entire thing on the iPhone 4! Grrrr... well, live and learn, I guess gorgeous 4K will have to do ;)

I don't need a Canon DSLR for my pics...I'll just use my iPhone4 til the Scarlet comes.

Full res pic from my iPhone...

It is funny!

However we are about to shoot an experimental five shot short, and now seriously considering shooting on the iPhone. I've ordered the Owle Bebo and gonna do some tests. We'll see how it works out. Rolling shutter is not such an issue for one of the shots due to the fact that the camera is a character in it, and will be using(mis-using) the touch focus and purposefully looking for some skew and jelly vision in parts.
