  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the RED 3-axis Lens Control System

Looks great! Can't wait to try it.

What are the differences between the RED version and the ET version?

I think how it's branded. I'm interested to know if the ET version will release at the same time as the RED version. Preference being for the ET version since I'll be using it with other platforms besides RED.

Any chance of handle style hand controllers for mounting on a RedClutch or similar?

The THC looks great for a dedicated puller and in a perfect world I'd never leave home without one. That said, there are times where I'll want to control FIZ myself when operating handheld or jib, where the form factor of the THC would be problematic. What I'd like is a handle with a knob that I could operate with my index finger (or thumb) allowing control of whichever parameter I select. Toggle for start/stop would be nice as well.

IAC, congrats on the system - looks great, can't wait to play with one!

The Thc has a mini vmount shoe so you can "attach" it to a hard.mount or monitor for jibs etc. Not exactly what you are looking for but half way there.

Lens data from non LDS lenses. So this system will basically turn my Super Speeds into LDS information in meta data? How does that work?

What's this range of this unit and response time? Have any tests been done underwater?

I would assume that you map your lenses and the unit would hold the map points and calculate the focal length and iris based on rotation.

Radio waves suck underwater, and I have never seen a wireless system that works worth a damn there, so I wouldn't count on it.

Indeed. Just looking for a more ergonomic solution that facilitates smooth operation and precise control.

BTW, is there anyway the THC can drive the motors in the Servo handle on the Cabrio? I know Microforce has a cable that allows it...

Meizler has everything - this unit - I bet is based on same components is just FIZ. RED marketing always smart - why sell everything at once, when you can give customers options? And they want to make sure everything will work separately before pack everything in one case and get some stupid troubles with early adopters :) Very smart and reasonable decision.

P/S I'm still damn mad that I already bought other FIZ, which is BTW one of the best on the market today :)))

Quick note on promotional videos for FIZ guys - I think you could try to use heavier sticks and 2575 or even heavier gear head, when you shooting it to avoid rig kinda "jiggling" - looks a little harsh to my eye when best filming tools in the world being introduced in not absolutely perfect way :)))

I have the same tripod, and I don't know why that was giggling. The 1030Ds is like a goddamn rock with even heavier setups, so that moving around was...odd.

As for other FIZs, the Preston 1 and 3 channel are still the industry standard for a reason.

I don't like preston motors - the extra gear outside looks really odd to me. Preston hand unit is marvell for sure, but not motors. Heden motors feels much more reliable. Would be great if I can use RED FIZ with Heden motors... I know it wouldn't never happen.

Heard exactly the same, its possible this could be better.

Heden motor support is built into the WMD if that is what you are asking for Dmitry?

And about the shaky cam bit, yeah not our prettiest stuff but it makes the point we wanted to get out. It was a true rush job and the talking head stuff was all shot at around 2am so we were a little shot regardless of what we were shooting but point taken and agreed with :)

THere is a SD slot in the WMD.. you can calibrate each lens and store them.. then load them when you switch lenses.
