Hats off to RED for collaborating with Panavision. Great alliance. Can't wait to see all the films and series made with both the Panavised RED as well as the 8K Weapon when it debuts.

Is it possible to get the color science for us with "regular" reds?![]()
It's interesting to compare and contrast the Xenomorph Red Weapon vs. the Panavised Red Weapon:

Sure hope so... Lots of former RED hating ASC guys were commenting on how beautiful the color was and that is was far from the "RED look." Could turn a new chapter for RED to adopt the LI color in camera to please everyone and get us beautiful images straight from camera. Some even mentioned the highlight rolloff was more beautiful and soft. Is that a color science thing?

Honestly, and this is all conjecture on my side, I have a feeling that the LI color science is not that different from the latest Dragon color. It's more an excuse to allow themselves to like RED now (the DP's that used to dislike RED out of misinformation), since it's a "whole new color science".
DLX will have a brand new custom made by Panavision OLPF and custom IR filter. That means, that the whole optical path will be different from standard Weapon, so LI color science will not apply to the standard Weapon or Dragon cameras.
This is in their video's how they say they will optimize the olpf to the glass, also they explain how they can tighten up some stuff on skin tones for specific looks that are needed for a film. This makes a lot of sense to me for films that have a daily burn rate that is more then the cost of my entire indie film production: the lens & camera package is like the fuel pump to a billion dollar rocket so it has to be perfectly lined up....
Where did you read/hear this? Or are you making an assum--err, "educated guess"?
Those who called RED vaporware back in 2006 should feel ashamed now.

No, actually, it was the other way around (the Genesis was developed and introduced first).
Unbeknownst to many (by beknownst to others) Panavision had an internal program to develop a large format digital camera for most of the last 4 or 5 years. The product was never completed, and ultimately some key development team members left. From what I see, this camera might be a reworking of that intended internal product (hence the packaging and optics) finally brought to market via a deal with Red to solve the sensor, recording, and workflow issues. If Michael Cioni is reading this, I'd love to have a talk with you at Cinegear. I'll make it quick... :001_smile:
i would bet not. Seems pretty clear they have done their best to keep the Red name off of their camera (and I get it... I mean it is their camera) and minimized the wording in all their media as to only mention that it uses a Sensor developed by Red. Like that's the only part they used Seems that an effort was made to only mention the sensor. So I'm betting there is some little code key that will only allow you to use their mags.Does the PV DXL accept RED branded mini-mags?!

Hey I could be wrong. But kind of on the same note it was pretty difficult for a long time to use other CF cards on the Red 1.
Will certain be there at CineGear to answer all the questions, but more importantly, show off the camera modules, the glass, and the amazing pictures we're generating. We'll also be showing render speeds thanks to ColorFront at 40fps for HD dailies.
See you all tomorrow!
Seems pretty odd to me, no "RED inside" marking anywhere....wonder what Jim thinks about this camera.
Aloha
