  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the OConnor CFF-1

Hi digitalfx,

we've never had this come up, so it may be an anomaly -- for example, if the geometry of the claw hinge is somehow off, this could end up resulting in poor pressure efficiency regarding the knob. Please write me at: jim.elias (at) vitecgroup.com with your contact info and we'll get it sorted quick.

Best

Excellent customer service. Thanks.

still looking to trade?

Nope. :)

We're all comfortable with the FF-4 here. Known quantity, I guess you could say. I'm planning to pick up a CFF-1 though, but I figure I'll get both of my incoming Epic-X cameras here and start kitting them out as I go. I'm not short on FF units. I also have an MFF-1 and a TLS lightweight unit like Duclos sells. Both nice, but not as solid as the FF-4.

The CFF-1 looks great. Everyone seems to be very happy with them and I really liked them when playing with them at NAB.

Question, sorry if this is an old issue...

For use with the EPIC-M...are you guys mounting the CFF-1 on the 19mm rods attached to the standard universal mounts on the quick-release dovetail or are you using the lightweight 15-mm mount?

Just trying to configure my rig...thanks!

So far every rental that goes out with the new CFF-1 has a request to replace it with an Arri FF4. I realize this is mostly due to lack of comfort with a new design, but the issue that keeps repeating is that it doesnt lock onto the rods tight enough.

We have verified this issue, the problem is the two knurled knobs used to tighten the rods down dont allow enough grip to get a solid grip on 19mm rods. Not sure if the solution is as simple as replacing those knobs with thumb screws that can apply more force or if the idea needs a redesign.

Bottom line is the unit feels sloppy as it wont tighten down on 19mm rods. For now, our CFF-1 sits on the shelf and the FF4's are on the job.

Any suggestions?

You know... I am having this same issue with mine. How was yours modd'ed?

They are in maufacturing process now. That's the problem when you introduce products that prove very popular. The production line gets so busy getting them out that it becomes hard to free up time for the new product.

Please note that there are two versions available on the website. You can select between them using a dropdown menu on the right side of the page. One features the focus knob for stills lenses and the other the focus knob for cine lenses. The stills knob has a smaller gear ratio to help spread out the witness marks on the marking ring, incorporates an adjustable end stop if you use lenses with servo-driven focus rings, and is less expensive that the other version. More details available on our website and in this blog I did:

Mitch, the Photo Lens set for O-Focus DM is currently out of stock, when can we expect it to be available?

Still not close to the original prices projected, however, some great accessories and looks like a really nice build. No reverse capabilities for Nikon, which is kind of a deal breaker for many if the still lens market / 1:.75 gear ratio is the pitch.
