  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing Epic-W 8K

People need to sit back and look at the situation.. These cameras are literally flying out the door.. And red has increased production.. I understand about getting hopes up, but come on guys

On exactly the 11th october I switched my scarlet w deposit to the epic w via my dealer teltec in cologne. They assured me that I was the first in line to get the camera because of my long overdue scarlet w deposit.
Last week on thursday they received 4 Epic Ws in their headquarters in Mainz. They told me one of the cameras belongs to me, and they just wait for the confirmation of red to deliver them to the respected re-seller Teltec in cologne. Unfortunately thought, till now ( 5 Days later ) they are telling me that they have trouble getting the final conformation from Red in the USA so the Camera can not be delivered to its final destination.

Because I have been told that I receive my camera at latest by this monday I made obligations to shoot a project of mine on saturday. Is there any way to speed up the confirmation for the delivery, so I am able to shoot on Saturday?
It is really frustrating because the cameras are obviously just in Limbo waiting to be delivered..

Most of the team has been running on fumes with no sleep this last week as we have been shiping more cameras, ( SW included ) every couple days than we normally ship out per month. Something/Someone was bound to break and thats what happened.

No conspiracies. no jokes.. simply just working as hard as we call can just before, or just beyond, the breaking point.

Are you already planning a great team relaxing day for all your employees? I think they deserve that this holiday season.
 
Yes you are right, but they convinced me that I will get my camera on Wednesday last week.

As a matter of fact they did. But they are not able to get in terms with red somehow.

Maybe it is something banal like the time delay, because the offices in germany work exactly then they are closed in the USA, and vice versa.
 
I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I'm really curious.
I'm not at all educated on the tech side of sensors, but what/why makes that the epic-w/weapon Helium is build so much quicker than al the Dragon siblings?
Or is that something we can't know?

I'm not flying off the handle. Just excited to get my hands on the camera. Nor would I ever plan a shoot around something I don't own unless I plan on renting it. It's just that I've seen a few people where I live get their cameras already, so I thought I should call and check up on the situation.

Exactly! RED is doing an amazing job!

Just think about those times the client is breathing down YOUR neck to get the project faster... and you're the only one who knows how hard you're working on it, how much sleep you're missing..... and the only reason you're doing this is for your love of the craft and wanting everything to look it's best!


RED is doing phenomenal and I hope their staff can get some rest here soon.
 
The wait was more than worth it...I placed my order in December, I took the upgrade path and my Epic-W was delivered last Saturday morning. I was blow away when we went from standard def to high def...8K is simply mind blowing...and the workflow is not even close to the challenge I anticipated...
 
Carlos what are you editing in, until FCPX is inline I am going to be using redcine x to transcode or just shoot 6K

Camera showed up today, been dreaming of this day for 4 years since I used a RED Epic for the first time.

Headed to NYC for the week if anyone is around and wants to shoot!
 
Given all the upgrade paths, new cameras, and the crazy mad rush to get on the Epic-W train, I'm surprised this type of things hasn't happened more often. I can't imagine what it must look like to try to track all of this. I don't envy the folks at RED who have to manage it.

I'm enjoying seeing all these cameras fly out the door, knowing that mine is getting closer and closer. Thanks for all your hard work, RED team!
