  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing Epic-W 8K

I'm balls deep editing footage from a dual E-W studio shoot Tim Daust already told you guys about. The colors are richer somehow. The image is silkier and crispier at the same time. The shadows are stupidly clean. We shot 4k Prores 422 HQ for this project since it's a fast turnaround, green screen and blue screen. Keys like a dream. We tested at outset of shoot and 4K 422 is better for keying than 2k 4444.

And based on my limited 8k shooting so far, well I'll just say all those people saying they can't justify 8k, it's overkill etc... they just haven't seen it yet. They'll change their mind.

In all the Helium frames I've seen so far, the noise is way more monochromatic than previous RED sensors, which (when combined with such small pixels/massive oversampling) seems to make it perceptibly much, much cleaner.

Counting the seconds until I can get my 'Precious'! Can't come soon enough!

I'm sorry everyone to bother you with that kind of little stories, and i'm sorry for the whole bunch people waiting ahead of me for this message. I just d'ont know where to write this to be read...

Jarred,
This Friday your team sent us an allocation e-mail for our SW.
For a few months some of us have been making film with rent cameras or ancient ones, i myself lost a lot in the deal.
But as you said a long time ago, the march date was just a release and i didn't meant that we were getting our SW at that time.
So as everyone i kindly waited my christmas, everyday on RU and Facebook, taking news and seeing everyone else getting their toys.
Everyone was waiting for that graal allocation e-mail to start anything.
That's my case, i gathered the founds as soon as i received it (which is a big amount for my young fresh business) planned shootings, updated my client, made my communication.. etc.
Now, and after no news for the next past days you're telling me that this whole thing was just a joke?
What am i supposed to do with my money, my calendar and my clients?
I don't mean to be rude, and i think everyone is exhausted of waiting, but it's putting me and maybe others in some deep sh**.

I don't mean to be rude either, but that's on you. I understand your frustration of not getting a camera right away but I would NEVER plan your work/gigs around one camera. I don't think anyone at Red or here thinks it's a joke, I think they are aware of what happened and did not anticipate having so many SW orders and therefore wanted to make it right by offering us customers some truly incredible options and discounts, especially for those like you who have been waiting. I think in time once you do receive your camera you'll be very happy with it and the wait will definitely be worth it. It's hard to be patient when you've ordered a while ago but I wouldn't go around blaming others for you losing gigs because you didn't plan properly.

I was confused by his post. But apparently there was an email that went out to SW deposit holders telling them that their camera was allocated, and that followed by another one saying that the initial email was an error. So that's why he thought it was a painful joke. I can understand the pain. But ultimately it was a system bug.

Not going to lie, I was not expecting a camera any time soon. Allocated today.

I'm sorry you've had such bad experience. But with all due respect, please clarify and provide a link to where Jarred or anyone on the Red team says that it "was a joke". I'm curious and would be very surprised if they actually had said that. In my case, they took the delay very seriously. I too had been waiting for the S-W since Feb. and I paid everything in full, not just deposit since Feb. last week, I upgraded the SW to Epic W, which will be delivered on Wed. So I don't think they joke about this. $10,000 discount is no joke in my book. Cheers.

Was no joke.. was a human error. One of our staff accidentally blasted a bunch of Scarlet-W deposit holders allocation emails in order of name instead of time stamp by mistake.

Most of the team has been running on fumes with no sleep this last week as we have been shiping more cameras, ( SW included ) every couple days than we normally ship out per month. Something/Someone was bound to break and thats what happened.

No conspiracies. no jokes.. simply just working as hard as we call can just before, or just beyond, the breaking point.

I am quiet a bit frustrated about recent events regarding my order of the epic w.

On exactly the 11th october I switched my scarlet w deposit to the epic w via my dealer teltec in cologne. They assured me that I was the first in line to get the camera because of my long overdue scarlet w deposit.
Last week on thursday they received 4 Epic Ws in their headquarters in Mainz. They told me one of the cameras belongs to me, and they just wait for the confirmation of red to deliver them to the respected re-seller Teltec in cologne. Unfortunately thought, till now ( 5 Days later ) they are telling me that they have trouble getting the final conformation from Red in the USA so the Camera can not be delivered to its final destination.

Because I have been told that I receive my camera at latest by this monday I made obligations to shoot a project of mine on saturday. Is there any way to speed up the confirmation for the delivery, so I am able to shoot on Saturday?
It is really frustrating because the cameras are obviously just in Limbo waiting to be delivered..
