  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interchangable OLPFs

Per a RED rep, there are only a set number of DIY replacement kits and they are being reused. All DIY kits are currently out with customers. When a DIY kit gets returned to RED they are then shipped back out to the next customer in the queue.

Really?! But why nobody from red told me what's happen?! I love red and what's they did for me but they have to admit that there is a real problem of communication since the dragon... (I'm a red fan since the beginning, I've been one of the really first red one dop in France)

Daniel and antoine, must be a miscommunication. We are not recycling DIY kits. We are just hand to mouth on the actual OLPFs, as you guys know, so that is the bottleneck.

EDIT: More clarification, we did exceed the number of OLPF gasket removal tools we had originally made. So, for the few days production needed machine up some more of those tools, we were hands tied unless a tool was returned. Meaning, this was a short blip on the radar. We are not holding back DIY kits waiting for kits to come back as SOP.

Chris, yes, they are shipping. As quickly as we can make them.

Thanks for clarifying Brent

After receiving the DIY kit which comes with some tools, online instructions, and a a video walkthrough, I've decided to send my camera to RED to do the installation. I was about to start the process and was reading the instructions which recommends several different times very strongly that the camera be sent in. Self installation officially requires a professional clean room etc. You have to cut some rubber in there, and pry loose a part that is glued in. Basically if anything gets in there (which seems likely in my environment) it is on you and you are advised to contact RED and not attempt to remove it. Not worth the risk to me, I'd rather send it in after seeing the process. Just thought I'd share, you may be bolder that I.

Seriously?! I was under the impression it was just a couple screws.

It can get a little hairy but it's an adventure! You're cutting pretty close to the sensor so not for the faint at heart. Ask your bomb squad rep to see the installation video if you're not sure, that'll give you a good idea of what's in store.

After two months since order, my Low Light OLPF has shipped! I can't wait to take this thing for a spin, considering it gets dark before I even get home from work.

It might as well be called daylight saving time OLPF. ; )

Hello,

My camera is undergoing the upgrade process as we speak. I have the possibility of choosing the Low Light or the Skin Tone OLPF. I plan on buying the other one as well but I have been reading that the Low Light is taking a lot of time for delivery. Is the Skin Tone OLPF delivering faster? In that case I will take my camera with the Low Light one in order to save some time. Any suggestion?
Thanks

Any new updates on LLO OLPFs? Ordered mine on December 1st...anxiously waiting :)

I am placing my order for the Low Light OLPF right now and the note from my Bomb Squad rep yesterday is mine should ship "at some point in February, possibly towards the end of the month."

Correct, Ted, we are looking at about a month to fill current orders in the system.

The flip side of the LL OLPF is if ordered early, you get it .......but can't do anything with it because you are waiting on HL OLPF installation kit which seems to be in huge demand......sigh.

The SKIN TONE-HIGHLIGHT DIY kit should be readily available in next week or so.

Jeff Cronenweth said in an interview: "The extra latitude was also great, but it was offset a little bit because we used (the Dragon’s Optical) Low Pass Filter so you almost end up (with similar latitude as the Epic)."

Was the LLO version he had for "Gone Girl" still in beta, or did he get to use a finalized one that we're now getting? I know Jarred mentioned the LLO is similar to the OLPF in the Epic-MX, but was curious how much of the latitude for the Dragon is being lost with this OLPF installed?
