  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interchangable OLPFs

Hi Brent,

I didn't send my e-mail requesting the OLPF Interchangeable kit to "support@red.com"

I sent it to "dragonupgrade@red.com" - on October 1st.

I assume I'm still in the queue? I seem to remember this was to e-mail address to use.
Thanks!
George

George, you sent to the right place.

Now I'm confused. I haven't submitted my Dragon yet but want to - will both pathways get me to the upgrade?

2nd question - if I were to upgrade my SCARLET MX to a Dragon before Dec. 1st - would it ship with the upgrade? or would it need to be sent back in at a later date?

All Dragon upgrades will have the swappable module installed.

I guess it is easier to be noble when there is no competition. Vendors with competition need to market their products early for a number of obvious reasons. Which is part of the reason why RU is full of threads with early protos and missed deadlines.

I`d like to see OLPF vendors pop up left right and center but lets face it, there will end up being a very small amount of OLPFS to use that are not experimental/avant-garde .

I think the different vendors is a nice idea but the reality is that firmware and color science around it needs to be developed first before a OLPF can work with camera.

Not always true - the OLPF replacements I have prototyped need no colour science tweaks to be useful, as they deal in false-colour effects from outside the visible spectrum anyway.

I agree. There wont be that many to swap too.

And if you take away the experimental or "interesting" OLPFs I can only imagine how small the number of real production useable OPLFs there will be.

I have received my LOW LIGHT OLPF kit and installed it. In the menu settings it only gives me the SKIN TONE option. Is there a certain RELEASE or BETA build that will give me both options. I am leaving for Singapore Friday with our 6 cameras and would greatly appreciate a solution as soon as humbly possible.

Thank you

Duke

What are you running now?

Ketch, it is more than just qualifying an OLPF, it is also dialing in the color science settings for each one. So, we don't really have ability to just toss out half-baked prototypes. It is one of those "it is ready when it is ready" hollistically things....

Roger that Brent,

I had imagined it was something like that, but I have also learned that with RED, it never hurts to ask... :)

We'll make do with the two available ones at this time, and look forward to fill up couple of those x4 OLPF cases... Including the UW one too... :)

Brent, I sent a mail back when this was first released but never heard a reply. I should be in the system for a SkinTone Highlight. Is there a way to check on that please? Talked to my BS Rep but nothing finite. Thanks.

I was looking up Isaac specifically on that. Depends when you ordered. We are shipping daily. I would expect all current backorders to get caught up within the next 2-3 weeks....

I did the same and got nothing. Then went to the Red Store, ordered one and got it in the mail about 10 days ago. (LLO)
My camera is in the shop for swappable OLPF mod, looking forward to some testing....

Will, believe I have posted on this a few times in this thread. If you sent the email for the DIY kit, you will be contacted when your number is up in queue. We are hand to mount on them, as soon as ready, we are shipping. You will not get contacted before that.

Mine has already been upgraded by RED when it went in for service. My question is regarding the replacement options. Skin Tone Highlight. I was only able to choose one OLPF when the repairs were done.

Ah, got it. You meant the finished goods that you can purchase from the online store. Your rep should easily be able to confirm the order is in the system.

Yep, order in the system Rep did well but unable to provide a time outline, which I'm hearing should be before Christmas?

Got a confirmation from RED Europe that they had the upgrade kits in stock and my place in line came up. Wanted to send camera, but needed quicker turnaround and was super expensive, booked a flights with airmiles, went to RED Europe in London to drop-off camera and get it sent back the day after. Instead, they installed the Modular OLPF module + Low Light OLPF filter within an hour, fixed a helicoil on the top plate and I also walked out with a Skintone - Highlight OLPF module in a nice custom box. Now at airport, flying back to Amsterdam. It all took 6 hours. Hehe! Let the testing commence.

Big up to RED Europe, especially to Callum! You guys rock!
