INFO FROM MY BOMBSQUAD REP ON WEAPON UPGRADE

Regardless... It appears that the accessory bundle isn't the most popular option anyways, so we are running the numbers to see if we can give you an alternative.

I think the accessory package is a good deal, its all the things I would grab anyways, except the RedVoltXL Module, I already run off of Anton Bauers.

Can anyone confirm, per my Bomb Squad Rep's advice, that the $5000 equipment credit can only be used AFTER you've paid in full for your >Weapon upgrade AND have had the camera turned around (upgraded & returned) by RED?

The advice I was received was
"Once your DRAGON-to-WEAPON upgrade is complete and shipped back to you, RED will apply a $5,000 credit to your account that you can use"

After your WEAPON order is paid for and invoiced (note, invoiced means shipping within one business day), the $5000 accessory credit is applied to your account to use on future purchases.

Hi Jarred,
It might sound funny, but why don't just declare a $10,000 accessories credit along with just the brain and ssd module alone? From where I see it, that's exactly what you are giving (which BTW is awesomely generous) except the first $5,000 comes in pre determined accessories while the second $5,000 is free choose.

However, if you declare $10,000 accessories credit + only brain & ssd module, then anybody can choose to their exact flavor and there's no way anybody would say they can't configure a working package and that the transition isn't as easy as it can get, which I think is your goal.

Three reasons (which also applied back with Stages RED ONE-to-EPIC program).

One, to meet our shipping estimates, we needed to order parts long before NAB started. By offering a bundle, we can more safely predict demand than having everything a la carte - with chance of overstock on some items and not enough of others.

Two, the more RED buys of certain products, the better our cost. Which, in turn, we pass along to you.

Three, understand the goal of the WEAPON bundles. After you send in your EPIC/SCARLET brain + Side SSD Module, we are trying to return a functioning package back to. Meaning, when you combine your WEAPON bundle with our existing EPIC/SCARLET accessories (displays, media, rail parts, REDVOLT XL batteries, etc), you have a functional package out of the box. Plus, the I/Os of the Base Expander are comparable to the I/Os on the brain you are sending back.

One thing I'm not clear on - it doesn't seem exactly like a 1:1 trade-in, at least as worded elsewhere. Meaning, you have to purchase a 512 mini-mag, then send in a 1.8" mag, and then you get credit for future purchases. So, I have 2 64GB 1.8" mags. It seems I can't trade those in on just two 512 mini-mags; I'd have to buy 2 512 mini-mags, and then use my credit to buy 2 more 512 mini-mags to get the trade-in value. Is that right? Happy to be wrong if someone can clarify.

Regardless, it's a generous policy!

Jance, let's say you have 5 REDMAG 1.8" 64GB you want to trade-in for 5 RED MINI-MAG 512GB. So, you contact your rep, buy 5 5 RED MINI-MAG 512GB. RED issues you an RMA to send in your 5 REDMAG 1.8" 64GB. Once we receive the 5 REDMAG 1.8" 64GB, we credit you $950 for each one. If you want to leave credit on your account, great. If not, we can cut you a check/wire for the credit.

TO CLARIFY - This is totally different than the $5000 accessory credit with WEAPON. That has to be credit on your account to be used by you for future purposes.

Brent, please shut me down quickly if I am making too broad of an assumption...

But lets say I upgrade to Weapon, pay my money, receive the new Weapon, then AFTER the 5k accessory credit is in my Red account "for future purposes":

- could the 5k accessory credit be used for a brand new ScarletX or Scarlet dragon brain as a brand new transaction?
- or is this strictly accessories?

I'm curious about this scenario as it would be a cost effective way to add a second B cam to the mix.

Ow wow, that's freaking awesome!

Good question. The intent of the credit is certainly for you to outfit your WEAPON. But, honestly, once the credit hits your account, you can use as you deem fit. We won't be able to gatekeep that.

WOW, Wow, wow... Thanks Brent, that's very intriguing if that ends up being the case.

Going into a long weekend of decision making, this makes the upgrade case even more enticing and flexible.

Benefits:
- Gets me a B Cam ScarletX for $2,950
- Gets me a B Cam Scarlet Dragon for $9,500
- All my soon to be "legacy" modules live to see another day (WC risers, cheeseplates, handles, XL Module, Side Handle, RedLink)

What my BOMB REP just sent me

In regards to the RED MINI-MAG Trade-In Program:

The program is available now.

The Following REDMAG 1.8 SSD capacities and associated 4 & 12- Pack purchased on or before February 23rd, 2015 are eligible for upgrade:
REDMAG 1.8 512GB, 256GB, 240GB, 128GB, 64GB. All MAGS have the same credit amount.

The REDMAG 1.8 SSD 48GB is not eligible for this upgrade program.

The is a one time, single-purchase upgrade program you must make all upgrades at one time.

The RED MINI-MAG 512GB must be purchased at full price and credit is applied afterward.

You are responsible for the shipping of the MINI-MAG 512GB and the shipping of the REDMAG 1.8 to us.

Any MINI-MAGS purchased under the trade in program are not able to be returned.

Brent, another enticing question, got 2 bodies, Epic Dragon with mini side ssd module, and a Scarlet with standard side ssd module. Question is, can I swap out the mini ssd module on the Epic (to put it on the Scarlet) when sending in Epic for Weapon upgrade? So I send in the Epic D with the standard side sdd. Since, either ssd module that comes in with any Dragon getting the upgrade gets replaced with the new one on Weapon.
That way, I can at least get my Scarlet MX up to the new mini mags pending when I upgrade it to Scarlet D.

lol. I thought I said that right. I put the $950 right in there!

Yeesh.

Yes each 1.8" REDMAG is worth $950 as a trade in for each 512GB MINI-MAG you purchase. REDMAGs 64GB and higher are eligible.

And yes, this is a hell of an awesome thing for RED to do.

How long will this trade in value last? And are there similar trade in values for other old components like the side handle and whatnot?

Thanks, guys.

Unknown at the moment, but I would suspect not forever. There hasn't been any trade-in program for the Side Handle or other AKS. I don't think would should expect one either.

Brent, for those of us doing a Weapon upgrade (sending in our camera) wouldn't it be easier just to send in the mags at the same time and not have to do the whole credit/cut a check deal? Especially if we are paying via a credit card it would cost you less in processing fees and then no labor for dealing with cutting a check after you get the mags. Basically order with the camera how many mags for the trade in, they come with the camera and when you ship the Weapon out it comes with the replacement mags. Does that make sense (it sure does it my head;))

Mat_G, I like where your head is at.

I love quoting Jarred with “All good things come to an end”. And I have said elsewhere to expect this to last until WEAPONS are rolling out in big numbers. So you have some time....

Guys, I love the creative thinking of Mat_G and Abiodun. They are realizing we are giving them some freedom with these upgrade scenarios...

Wait a minute. Brent, do you mean that I get a free upgrade to the Weapon Mini SSD module if I sent an Epic Dragon with 1.8" SSD side module?
I thought I have to send an Epic Dragon with Mini SSD module installed but it didn't really make a sense now since the Weapon doesn't use the same Epic mini SSD module.

Jay, does not matter what Side SSD Module is on your EPIC/SCARLET when you send it in. You will be getting a WEAPON with the WEAPON MINI-MAG media bay back either way...

Great! Another $1,500 savings!

This new info on the upgrade clarifies things a lot.

Bit off-topic but a crucial question for wildlife shooter: How much power Weapon MG requires compared to Epic-X Dragon?
