  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

One thing Jim. We need faster boot times for Epic and Scarlet faster than present day digital still cameras.

Is it possible to carry on your shoulder like anyother digital still cameras?

Oooh... Interesting tidbits:

- Lots of little electrical pins for lens mounts.... more than I would expect necessary (and that I rcall on the R1) for just lens data.

- CF module is shown with disimilar CF card sizes (8 & 16GB)... interesting.

- First render I recall seeing with the CF reader/EVF interface on the side of the body detached/exploded. Wonder what could eventually go there?

- Ah ha! There must be threaded holes (or som mount point) on the BOTTOM of the side-CF module... I've been wondering where that EVF bracket attached to!

- Hmm, one of the renders has the Redmote being the same width as the brain. The IBC pics show it as slightly narrower.

(And for the poster that asked, recall that one of the batt's in the grip would be good for about 20 minutes of runtime, depending on configuration)

Good stuff! Thanks Jim.

Gasket?

Gasket?

Gentlmen of the Red Crew:

Is there any sort of weather sealing between the modules, or at least the electrical connectors? An inlaid gasket , etc...?

Thanks.

Maybe its the same width as Scarlet, a little narrower than Epic.

I'll just add that in certain situations, it would be great to have an adaptor that would allow the different modules to be connected by a cable. So you could have the brain/lens on in one location, then use a cable adaptor module to run do the other modules.

This has been confrimed via posts from the Red boys. Additionally, at IBC somebody captured Jarred on video stating that an optical version could remote the modules 500' away...

Port covers???

Port covers???

,

I was wondering if you guys could make some sort of port cover for the accessories ports. In the past with the Red one this has been a huge headache for me. I am constantly filming around salt water and blowing sand. This is the case when you film professional kiteboarding. I had the R1 out a couple months ago for a slider jam and after a week filming almost everything had sand and a layer of rust starting on it. This normally wouldn't be an issue if the camera goes through a professional service center, but I am working by myself in remote sections of the world. For example africa, indonesia, islands of of south america...etc. Even the hex bolts came away with corrosion and sand build up. I am sure there will be others that would love this option as well.

just wanted to ask.

thanks

Ryan

DSMCTM stands for Digital Stills and Motion Camera... and by our definition, both need to be RAW (since we made it up, we make the rules). Last time I looked, none of the DSLRs have RAW motion... so they don't qualify. Call them something else.

Thanks.

Jim

Digital Stills and Home Movies?

I think you've got it backwards, the video capabilities of the Red are undeniable, professional and continue to get better.

Whether it gains any serious market share as a stills camera is to be determined.

I believe the camera in Jim's renders on Page 20 and 21 is a DSMC Scarlet. Check his render on his post #195 (Page 20), where you can see a small amount of the RED logo's right side. On the bottom of of the logo button you can see the letters "let". The lens appears to be mounted with the new RED mount, which would seem to rule out it being the fixed lens Scarlet. It could be the 2/3" Scarlet Cinema, but that lens render appears to be too large to be a Mini-RED Prime.

As we'd expect to see at times on a DSMC Scarlet, there are traditional still photo accessories - side handle, bottom handle, etc..

I think he meant for the Canon and Nikons, not the DSMCs.

can't you afford CF cards? why should SD cards be preferred? They are fragile, and too small, you can loose them in your own pocket. Also: lower capacity (let's say: half)
For movies, I think CF card is a much better format than SD.

SD cards are so cheap that one could use them like tape: shoot once, put to shelf for archive. Also, they can be bought pretty much everywhere...
