  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wachowski Brothers Speed Racer.

before i went to the movie, i was in a perception that the movie would be a 'sequel' to the matrix trilogy (in terms of style). you know, the bullet time effect, real cars collisions, lots of kung fu and wire-jumping around stuff. but the movie actually give me a hit of what Gen-Y audience might want to watch in their future movie going experience. This Hyper focus stuff are acceptable if it was executed properly, professionally and artistically.

as a (upcoming) filmmaker, im very happy with the film. why? because it opens up horizons for new kind of filmmaking. couple of red cams, a (big enough) green screen facility, few (talented) motion and 3d artist. unnamed actor/actress and a kick ass script. indies will never be the same again.

It's also apparently proving to be a failure both critically and financially. Pictures that fail in the marketplace rarely open up new horizons. And a picture that has a negative cost of almost $175 million is hardly a typical "indie," or any kind of model for one.

I thought it was great.

Alot of the racing scenes bordered on surreal imagery, which was cool.

It's just a rumor that came out because they don't talk to the press which resulted in people just making stuff up.
Larry is still a man.

i dunno, doesn't seem like anyone's makin anything up to me. seems entirely possible that larry wachowski is transgendered. lots of people are. and he's become a lot more feminized in his appearance. sculpted eyebrows and electrolysis on his face, judging by pictures.

sorry, back on point: speed racer looked terrible to me in the previews. did you guys like the film? worth my ticket price?

i cant seem to get why 'bluescreen' films like, sin city, 300 , speed racer, takes millions of dollars to produce. apart from the fact you would be paying 'less' for unnamed actor/actress, 'less' for film (red), 'less' for locations, 'less' for vfx and CG (artist working for credit and final cut in profit), what else will make the budget even pass 20 million? or even 10 million? given red one ,bluescreen and a couple of mac pro, i can remake the movie 300 for less than 3 million.

The turnaround time demanded on a major feature.

Yes, you could do it. But let's put it in perspective. Speed Racer was more than 1000 very complex, high-geometry, high-resolution VFX shots with a turnaround time of a few months. Now factor in modeling, texturing, rendering, 2D and 3D compositing... and that editorial changes, script changes, and VFX changes are constantly coming that must be accomodated. And the Studios demand dailies delivered in several different formats, as well as regular screenings in multiple locations.

Still think you could do it on a couple of Mac Pros? : )

Good, fast, cheap. Pick two.

All good points. On the other hand is a small film like Voices of a Distant Star, which was basically done by one guy sitting at home on his mac book pro, and it's simply one of the most beautiful little films you will ever see.

That film sounds so cool. I'm a fan of We Are The Strange, too (a feature film made by a solitary artist on a computer). I will have to check out Voices.

thats what i'm talking about! my idea is to direct a locked down, kick ass script, shoot it digitally against blue screen, and do a post production for 18 months.

somebody might ask, 18 months post production? WTF!
well, we are indie filmmakers, this is what we do. we invest looooong time and 'little' money to give life to the script hence the movie. pain is temporary, film is forever!

I hope you guys get a chance to check out Voices of a Distant Star. I cannot say enough about this film.

Nope, he's not. Not a rumor because they won't talk to the press. He actually "changed". Goes by Lorna now.
