  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm so bored...

It is like watching paint dry around here... maybe tomorrow will be better? :-)

Jim

Hello Jim you won't bored, we all here with you,
just came back from Macau Red Present, met Ted and Ryan,
guess they are can't wait till 18:00 like me...

My brain played cruel tricks on me last night. I dreamt I forgot about it until 6:55 and had 5 minutes to decide before the store opened.

It was a FF35 cameras with 90fps 3k s16, 48fps 5k s35 and 6fps 6k FF35 for $10k. Obviously my subconscious isn't very good at math or pricing. But upon waking up I kind of realized that that's actually exactly what I want haha. I don't need 24p 6k I just need a 5D strapped to a 4:3 aspect epic-s lol.

One innovative thing my dream-red did was to have a chimera chip where the s16 window had a higher pixel density than the rest of the sensor. That would have horrendous real-world implications I'm sure but it seemed to work fine in the dream haha.

AVID MC 6 has full native support for RED Epic, and is 64bit. Good news. Glad I got the crossgrade from FCP to MC. Now if I can only get my EPIC X...

Do you have a link to Avid's announcements? Haven't seen anything yet...

I had a recent bad experience with a company that did an amazing job at hyping up a new product release; major countdown webpages with the history of the company and its products on each countdown day, and even MORE forum excitement that RedUser (YES, MORE!). Anyways, here's where the company went wrong in my opinion:

1) The hype and the tease from the owner of the company became insane; people literary were out of their minds and couldn't wait for it, creating a purchasing hysteria for this product.
2) The long awaited date arrived only to give us ANOTHER countdown (sort of) of AVAILABILITY.
3) When the 2nd "countdown" arrived 2 months later, all units sold out in less than 5 minutes, even tough the owner in the forum had sated that he thought they had enough inventory for the expected demand; clearly not. The product cost $2200, by the way.

That was APRIL, and I just got mine last week, 7 months later (this company had to make a waiting list after the release fiasco). I had already moved on, so when I got it I turned around and sold it on eBay very quickly (5 hours) for $800 MORE THAN WHAT I PAID FOR), not because I didn't want it anymore (great product), but because the taste in my mouth this whole ordeal had left; know what I mean?

I guess what I'm saying is that people in general are much better equipped to handle a delay up front, rather than to be led into expectations that cannot be met by crazy demand.

This will likely be my first RED purchase, so I truly hope the experience above doesn't get replicated here.

what was the product?

I am going to get some lunch and then read some scripts. Hopefully that will help the time pass faster.

Big day for the industry, Red Digital, Canon, etc, another big suprise is Lomokino, wtf! I am so bored... At least the LomoKino is 2.5 perf, super 35mm and 1/5 of weight of the competitors, can't wait new scarlet, until then I'll check those: http://microsites.lomography.com/lomokino/

Holy flump!

That is so cool, what do you project it on, how do you project 144 frames...? Is the idea you can splice and edit lengths togther?

Very sweet, cool and cute...

E.

Don't get me wrong... I'm 90% likely to buy the RED offering, I just don't see the point of all the sniggering. Neither camera will be perfect for everybody.

Epic is perfect for me, perfect, in every way. Just waiting to get mine.

Since Pro DSLRs shoot at 10 frames a second, you might as well just hold down the shutter. This is basically the same principle. At 24 frames a second 144 frames is only a 6 second film. The speed they are taking photos in the screening room it looks close or less than 10 frames a second. Looks neat though. It would get very expensive to buy photo rolls and splice a film together. Just buy a used Arri S for less than $1000 on ebay and shoot 16 with a better image and 3 real C mount turrent lenses. The images will far surpass what i've seen on this site.

If the lomography offers autoexposure, and one is an amateur they can buy a super 8mm camera which most have auto exposure control and processing is cheap. With the correct exposure and latitude in the scene I've seen Super 8mm look amazing and its cheap. The cameras do the work.
