OK... we aren't bored. We are excited out of our skin. We have been working 24/7 on this release and have no desire to sleep. We did just change everything. That part is true.

I really can't wait for tomorrow at 6pm PST. I won't sleep a wink.

Good stuff.

Jim

aaaarrgh!!! I'll be staying up, and hoping the server won't crash :) this is too exciting... running around like crazy... hehehe :)

hey if it is, it would be an awesome announcement... for 2005 :)
(if they stay under something like 3-5 grand)
hehe

Ok we're already the 3rd and it's 8pm here in Shanghai.
I can't wait anymore...
I won't sleep tonight and i'll be in a very important meeting tomorrow morning when everything will be released in LA.
I think i'll have to pretend going toilets every 10 minutes to get the news...

has to more then that, do not think they would go hollywood for an EOS branded camera, but then again..
AVID - 7PM CET
Canon - Midnight CET
RED - 3AM CET (Friday)

Argh!!!
ROn

This is final a fight I'm really excited about to watch.
Even if it's an awesome 4K Canon Camera... it will just be interesting to see. If they manage to top Scarlet,
there's still Epic to beat ... what an unfair fight ... hehehe!
And the more choices we have, the better we are off... finally the industry is awake.
Thank you Jim! :)

Just be sure to wear this one underneath.

What a freakin' joke from Canon. If this is seriously all they have, no doubt Sony F3 will still be a better option with S Log. Looks like we're in the right place here waiting for a true Cinema camera. Anxiously awaiting Scarlet News !!!

Seems the rest of the industry may still be asleep or be truly focusing only on prosumer if they only introduce another 1080 p cam, AKA the 300C

I just hope there is an affordable "minimal specs" configuration available for indie filmmakers.

Not sure why there is so much sniggering if Canon go 1080p/2k

Surely that is how everyone will master their Scarlet footage? Sure, you get a bit of room for re-framing, but that is not as important, to me, as DR.. low light etc.

Let's see how the cards land on the table before people start declaring the winner (we might not know for months who has the best IQ)

My money is on RED because they have a track record and the balls to put the proverbial pedal to the metal, but I expect Canon to at least make a decent attempt at whatever the heck they are putting wheels on.

Canon Prototyped a 4k cinema camera (the ugly blowdryer cam) last year. They are capable of much more. Canon is notoriously priced higher for equal equipment than Sony, etc (for instance, look at the XF 305 which is still around $7600 for a 1/3 inch sensor cam, The EX1 is about $6200 for 1/2 and more ergonomic etc) I agree most productions go online, DVD, etc so 1080p is more than enough and looks great, but the point here is they are focusing on the prosumer and maybe lead into pro and not a cinema camera. Maybe a hybrid like the F3 which I guess is a good thing for the masses, but I'm looking for a serious independent filmmaking tool with raw options in post and upgradable options.

It is good Red is around and Scarlet looks to be offered in terms of stats anyway today. I personally have been on the fence with the Sony F3 for some time as it has true organic images and looks great for the cost, PL mount glass, low light looks smooth and natural. Resolution internally isn't go grand, but all that is necessary for most situations and with S log it is amazing. I've seen Epic / Alexa quality out of the F 3 (never blown up though which I'm sure where RED wins).

My main point for a true digital cinema camera is to not only do my own projects which consist of corp, commercial, shorts, etc. but to have a valuable camera that is popular and leaves options for other directors and storytellers to hire out. Most productions and independents that are serious seem to all want the RED One, Epic and hopefully now Scarlet if they can do a Super 35mm sensor with 4k.

Canon has the ability so lets see it at some level, even if it was priced way high and competing with the F65 I would just like to see them showing off so we know what is coming. Finally it looks like 4K projectors and 4K televisions aren't far away, so will the HD 1080 format be obsolete sooner than later. When paying $15000 or $20000 for a camera it may be the only one some of us can buy for several years. I've been waiting for 2 years for the best camera while saving up. I'm ready for something big after Nov 3rd. Was hoping for much more from Canon.

You guys keep saying you're changing things and this thread will also go off like a rocket with 9 pages of ridiculous speculation, like the last five did.
"I'm thinkin 4k 2/1 panoramic 3D with automatic stitching." (As if there will EVER be any market for such a thing.)
