  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm so bored...

OK... we aren't bored. We are excited out of our skin. We have been working 24/7 on this release and have no desire to sleep. We did just change everything. That part is true.

I really can't wait for tomorrow at 6pm PST. I won't sleep a wink.

Good stuff.

Its November 3rd 7.12pm in Australia.

November 3rd is on Backorder in the States.

My only question for the Canon announcement is... What is Scorcese going to do in it? Talk about mise-en-scene, directing? Sincerely, love his work, he is one of the great masters and one of his films is on my top 10 of all time list, but what does he knows about cameras? Shouldn't it be a wiser move to get someone like Christopher Doyle?

These celebrity endorsements in these "announcements" always leave me with a certain cynical grin... Of course, if Scorcese goes to the floor talking about color space, dynamic range , codec and how this will benefit his films, I'll eat my hat...

Sergio, it's Martin Scorcese, he can talk about what ever the fuck he wants to be fair.

I instantly thought of Arthur Schnitzler's Traumnovelle. And of course, by association, Kubrick. The mind is a strange thing. :-)

FWIW my bet is that Scarlet will be 16:9 and 4K. There will be no fixed lens option.

Boredom is a state of tension. Tension is repressed energy. Energy refuses to stay still. I think we all know what the outcome is.

Well
The canon blog-o-sphere seems to think that canon (note lowercase) will steal RED's thunder with the announcement. If the product is anything close to the 4K camera they showed in 2010 they do not have much of a chance in competing against scarlet, plus i love the shoot in 4K capture in 2K thinking, and they are all excited at the "50Mbs" bit rate.

Should be an interesting day, to bad I am in south africa for another 2 weeks, and 6PM PST is 3AM for me, going to be a late night, or an early morning.

Well, I think its a good time to be an indie filmmaker right now. 4 years ago I was shooting a short film with an HVX200 placing the camera 5 meters away from my talent to get shallow DOF in a dramatic scene. I shot that film entirely at night which was a nightmare with the low ISO of that camera, and all of my budget went practically on lighting. Today, an independent "guerrilla style" filmmaker can get interchangeable lenses, large sensor, high ISO cameras at different and affordable price ranges. Its all about the talent, indeed. These new cameras from Canon and Red are going to open the door of digital cinema filmmaking for a new generation, indeed!

Today, many will have to stock up on coffee (at least those who are in Europe), and watch the story ... MANY of dreams and aspirations.
Whether that will show Canon, Ed will consummate instruments that do not have to change over half a year, because both wanted to marketers. (Recall that Ed did outstanding things with firmware to RED one ).
For some, dreams today and find the value of the rock, unfortunately ...
But unless 3k for 3k (and this is likely) may be 3k for 4K. by 3k or 2k ....
Congratulations on Red team, and welcome all those who will soon join the people now because soon, very soon ....
