  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC '09? There's a new Canon camera to be announced soon (Canon source)

but it is SD.. prores now is 4k too no??

SD? Where in earth did you get that idea?

No, it's not SD. It's a resolution independent codec, and there's no fixed resolution limits, unlike with Prores and Cineform (except cineform prospect 4K). You can export to as high a resolution as you wish, assuming your soft- and hardware are capable of handling the data.

And no, Prores doesn't do higher than 1920*1080, as far as i know.

I wonder what could it be that would squash RED's up-coming line-up?

Another 3-ccd chip but with CF module.

Prores goes up to 4k now.

Shake is good for 30p to 24p conversions, but it still never looks as good as shooting the frame rate you needed in the first place.

a $2000 camera and an $80,000 lens? I don't think this will fly :hand:

$80k for a Canon HD B4 ENG lens...? Are you serious?

Why would you be paying 3.5 times the street price for such things?

Duno, Andrew. I wouldn't. But, something like this was quoted to me by Canon Australia when I enquired about an ENG lens last time. It was a while back, so maybe the prices have changed.

Anyway, the point is that Canon is unlikely to release a $2,000 ENG or Cine camera intended for, let's say $30,000 lenses.

Pro Res can easily encode full frame EPIC 6K files.... 6000x4000. Better make sure you got oodles of RAM though :)

heh heh heh.

Some rumors that Canon has discontinued production on their current prosumer cine cameras. That would seem to suggest a whole new line on the way.

I thought that invitation was from the division that delt with the photocopier and printer side of the business ? I doubt that they would be teaming up with Panavision Australia for an open day showing how good the 5D was if they expected to be releasing a s35 or even s16 chip prosumer camera in the next month.

I'll bet it that it's some crappy all in one printer with an included document sharing portal, or something equally as uninteresting.

I can't see them change history as they claim on Sept 29 much like RED did...I'm curious but history changing...interesting..."one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history". What the heck could it be!?!

A camera that sends pictures to your printer, prints them and automatic updates your Flickr account.

Jared,

I thought that having a module that would record prores was not possible at full debayer because of less than real time full quality debayer capability of todays silicon processing power in camera. Thats why we record raw and debayer later. Have you Red folks developed super speed asic's or am I missing something?

Edit. My bad. I thought I was on another thread about module suggestions for Epic. It's what happens when I post with my iphone in the back seat of a car.

It could equally suggest they realize they have shot their "video" camera division in the foot, so best to cut their losses and shut it down....

... just saying.... this is all just speculation.
