  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forgive me if I am out of line here... But since we are now within the stated time that Epic-Xs are supposed to be shipping, I would be grateful for the following information:

1: Apparently Epic-Xs did not begin shipping in Feb.. I would like to know if they will begin shipping in March.
2: I would like to know what exactly is included in the Epic X stage 2 package.

Please understand, I am very excited, and just want to know how much longer.. I had dreamed of taking my Epic X to NAB and shooting some nice footage in the Sony booth... :w00t:

Any answer from the RED team would be wonderful.

ha ha ha.....
I'm still awaiting my SSD's and module....ordered months ago on day one in hour one. NOW...i sure hope those begin shipping before epic x's (not that i don't want my epics now, but would seem strange not to get those little ssd's before epics get shipped).

.....and as many, awaiting with anticipation, excitement and a stash of cash falling from my pockets as I await that email.....

The last I heard was that we could expect our Epic-X "before summer".

I have wondered if the real shipping hold-up is SSD and not the camera itself...Only a limited number of RED ONE owners have received their pre-ordered SSDs - if they ship EPIC cameras without an adequate supply of recording media -- and no way to connect the current media options -- it will be bloody!

Gotta have all the cruxy pieces of the puzzle in place.

Different things have been thrown around by different people but AFAIK the last time Jim spoke to a specific timetable for stage 2 people (remember we're the ones that have already placed orders/large deposits so we are already "in the system") was when he posted, as Jay says, that production versions -I.e. Cast bodies rather than machined, would ship in limited quantities in late Feb with somewhat rapid ramp up from there.

Circuit boards and cast parts are usually made by subcontractors that can produce thousands of parts in days/weeks once they start so it seemed like when the castings arrived it would mainly be getting the elves to assemble things. I know I'm oversimplifying some of it, but it would be nice to know if for instance the castings have arrived or are in transit and maybe an updated timetable on ramp up from Jim.

And reasonable to the lucky who make the cut will become delight, and to others who don't, will seem, well, not so much...

So now we have the convoluted pleasures of speculating defining dissecting reasonable as it relates to qualtities of Epics ....

still waiting on my bomb, after i have a complete red one.. then ill be looking forward to my epic:)
in other words... I can wait.. completely happy with my red one

There were these 2 posts buried in a Bomb EVF shipping thread.
Seems like this guy has only been on the job a month now.

A few weeks ago we hired the person responsible for setting up all of Oakley's production. I worked with him for 15 years. He is the best.
RED is no longer a development company. Results should become apparent soon.

...Trust me.. we have so much cool stuff in development right now, your head will spin. That will never stop. Now that we have a Rockstar in charge of manufacturing, we can spend more time focusing on development and less time apologizing for how shitty we are actually getting stuff out the door :)

The current plan is to begin shipping EPIC-X Stage 2 before NAB in April, ship all EPIC-X Stages complete before mid July... and all EPIC-X orders taken at NAB (from new customers) by end of summer. EPIC-Ms are currently being made and will continue to be made as people want them.

Any minor delays we have had getting production of EPIC-X started has been supply chain related. We are working through the issues and the team is very focused.

Thanks so much Jim!, we know these requests can irk you, but please know we all (well most of us) have learned to take all these estimates with a grain of salt. Because we have accepted your signature as MANTRA. But we also trust things are going to be a LOT different than R1... because we experienced that improvement with how quickly you guys churned out M-X upgrades, which was hardly a trivial update.

Rock on TEAM RED!

ship all EPIC-X Stages complete before mid July...
Less than four and a half months before every Red One owner, trading in or upgrading, has an Epic-X in their hand? Seriously cool. Great to hear, fingers crossed all goes as expected with production. Thank you Jim!
Cheers

Thanks Jim!

Great news!!!

Any more specific news about Stage 3.5, or should we just assume the all past descriptions stand unchanged and delivery will be between Stage 3 and new customers?

It would just help to know as it relates to further Red One accessories ... like the R1 SSD side module.

Very helpful...

Thanx

Jim, thanks for chiming in. Is Epic-X now the common naming convention for Epic Stage 4's? I assume that's what you mean, since you're talking about new customers ordering Epics. I was under the impression that Stage 4 Epics would be called something else, like Epic S35...

Thanks for clarifying!
