  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New German Primes: Price below 10.000 per set.

A birdie whispered into my ear. These mystery primes are a collaberation between Linos (Germany) and Thales (France). But the lenses will be made in Poland. The optics are pretty good but the mechanics suck and need to be re-designed. There will be delays. I bet you a million dollars and 5 Epics on this info...

seems birgers all on the way

The lenses are German-built, designed, and are (as far i can judge the sets i know) delivered so far in Germany.

I suppose that they should have thousands of lenses of those sets in the market within ~60 days.

I dont know of any Polish engagement and the mechanics are, well, "German-style".

Thanks for the post guys, I am even more confused than before. :willy_nilly:

Just to clarify:

Don't go on current speculation for large purchases.

Obviously agree. I am not buying a set, at least not for a long time. I am just keeping myself entertained with gear pr0n in between writing breaks.

Dude. With all respect, you don't have much credibility left on this topic. I heard the Polish connection also and that the mechanics are just not very good. I hope that Linos is not trying to pull a fast one.

well phil, thanks for your input.
the mechanical and optical quality of the lenses is well, pretty good.

Your personal judgement respected, i suppose that you should rather stay on facts instead to let your imagination go wild and carry you away.

We are not speculating - but using the lenses. Now since quite a time. They are all German-made. Glass, optics, mechanics etc.

If you are afraid of Polish connections or whatever i would recommend using a tinfoil-head-protection, that might help.

To be precise: As we know anyone who is using the lenses here, i would call your assement, with all due respect, complete nonsense.

the 3 dops who used the lenses so far are wellknown and reduser.net members.

the results are already on air. The mechanical quality was one of the reasons of the DoPs to choose them - and they usually rent cooke here.

Could you name anyone who claimed to have used the lenses? I would be highly interested. Konantin, Bjoern and Juergen did.

If anyone stole the lenses and returned them however at night, however, you might have a source.

cool to be scam on reduser.net, btw. jan.

Hey Jan

Just marking time until NAB. The conjecture here is killing me. In 12 short days most of the rumors will become much clearer. I am looking forward to a good dose of reality.

Don't know if you will be there, but I promise I will take a close look at these and all the new PL lenses.

Thanks for your contribution. It's a good time to be Red.

Jan, I talked to a "test pilot" of these lenses who knows what's going on but has signed an NDA and is afraid to have his name released. He is German and you know who he is.
Besides Bjoern, Juergen and Konstantin no one has shot anything on none of the lenses.
No NDAs have been send out yet - to no one.
I dont know who you are talking about - as no one besides Bjoern, Juergen and Konstatin used the lenses and you are unfamillar to them.

clear enough?

You are the most telling of this whole thing. You are the internet Champion of this program and your assessment is now "pretty good"? That is very interesting wording. You have been the one that said "more info in a few days". Not. Then "they are great". Now "they are pretty good". "They are better than UPs". Then they are "a bit softer than UPs".
Come on. Which is it? Are you getting your lenses for free? Sorry for being so direct.
Well Phil, no reason to be sorry.

Sharpness & resolution & micro-contrast are different aspects, and i would easily judge the lenses in the Ultraprime-sector (and so does the audience). In some aspects better, in some weaker, but all in a rather irrelevant/esoteric level.

So far, rest assured, i put more money than i earned, in the lenses.
In the long run, even you might benefit from thousands of high-quality German lenses in the market this early summer.

However, your "source" a mayor bigmouth or solid liar.

No NDAs have been signed yet and all shots have been done in Berlin by fellow DoPs.

And, let me underline that, if you keep on posting in that style, the manufacturer would have a good reason to only forwarded your posts instead of allowing the so far invited fellows from denmark, poland, sweden and the U.K. to sign an NDA.

I personally would appreciate 3hrd party opinions and input even before NAB however.

Laguun I enjoy your posts here and you know my earlier interest in the lenses you are marketing, but I must say you have acted very strange in this entire ordeal so I am not sure who to believe anymore. If the lenses are Polish made I am glad I withdrew my interest.

If they are proudly German made then I do not understand the secrecy. When you build up this much suspense for such a long period of time it will be impossible for people not to be disappointed when the truth comes out no matter how good the news is.

Does Thales own Angenieux ? or is the corporate relationship more complex than that.

For all I know the red primes could be the best by a long way but until I can test them thoroughly or hear results on a detailed lens test from someone with chops like Matt Uhry I would not pass judgement on who is putting out the best set

By the way if some of the companies comming out with lenses are reading this please hear this "AN 18mm LENS IS A MUST FOR ANY COMPLETE PRIME SET"

Cheers Finner - I also expect the Red primes to be good. I also like it that I can get to Red HQ in about an hour if the traffic is not too bad, and I know and like many people there personally. Some will accept bribes in the form of beer. It's different than a Mystery "German company" that's bungled it's release so badly. Will the service be the same ?

I'm just worried that Red can / will deliver as soon as they say - I've had deposit money down on the Primes since 2007! Seemed like they were always 6 months away for the last 2 years. I think it's become a race of whomever ships a ~ 20k set is going to lead the volume sales in prime sets and it's going to be scraps for anyone else. Red is motivated now... but the proof is when the Fedex guy rings.

Since 1993, Angénieux has joined Thales Group

Linos>>>

Linos a member of Qioptiq Group is also a maker of Rodenstock Photo Optics

Poland>>>France is afraid of "flood" from Polish plumbers>>>

so to conclude that maybe somebody has got an idea to employ "Polish plumbers" in their homeland to make a cheap cine lenses :sifone: .
